That applies to me too at the moment. The latest in my sorry saga of ill health has seen me bedridden for the last three weeks, thanks to a mystery knee problem. My night nurse - pictured in my avatar - has taken it upon herself to sleep next to me in case there's an emergency she can help with, meaning my wife has had to move into a spare bedroom until I can walk again!
I have a pair myself - from my last knee replacement - but the physiotherapists have been absolutely brilliant and have given me some alternative aides. When the problem occurred three weeks ago, I booked a home visit from my GP as well as contacted the Community Nurse on another issue. I'm yet to see the GP, who appears to have forgotten me, but the nurse contacted an NHS physiotherapist on my behalf, who turned up that afternoon, poked & prodded the knee and gave me series of exercises to do. She told me to not try using the crutches - organised a Zimmer frame instead, as well as a booster seat & frame for the toilet. As if that wasn't enough, she also organised a high backed shower seat - which arrives on Monday morning - as I can't stand unaided for very long, and has approved the installation of a bannister rail on the wall side of our staircase, so I'll be able to get up & down stairs safely. And to think that Labour, Reform and the Tories all want to do away with the NHS so that they can fill their wallets with our private insurance premiums. I drew the line at her offer of a commode though - there's no way I'd put my good lady wife through that.
Rugby League fans in Perth, WA, have been flocking to join Perth Bears RLC, the recently announced NRL expansion team for 2026. Bears Social, bemused at first by the sudden increase in membership numbers, have issued a statement requesting that people stop applying because they are not connected to Perth Bears in any way - they're a long standing gay social club.
