Tom Farmer, one of Scotland’s most successful businessmen and the founder of the famous Kwik Fit garage chain, has died at the age of 84.

The Edinburgh-born entrepreneur died peacefully at his home in the city on Friday.

Born in Leith, Edinburgh in 1940, he became a household name after he founded the Kwik Fit chain of garages in 1971 and built it into the world’s biggest independent tyre and automotive chain, selling it to Ford for £1 billion in 1999.

Pre-internet/mobile phones days, we were on our way back from Brentford and only had radio reports as to how bad it was, RIP.

    Just thinking the same.

Tragic, but no one on the coach realised how bad it was at first

Just recall seeing the game and the commentary, then the first picture of the flames in the stand, long time ago so of course could be mistaken, but given it was a Yorkshire team thought it was on local tv

Going to be a hard watch for many fans. The way that fire took hold was frightening.
RIP to the 56 fans that lost their lives.

There are a couple of excellent documentaries on Utube re: the Bradford City fire, from people who where there, and also a few words from John Helm who was commentating on the game, and a radio commentator who was in the stand. They played his commentary as the flames ripped across the roof at lightening pace. Very, very scary...He and the guy with him, went towards the back of the stand to find the exit locked and bolted. They just got over the front barrier in time.
RIP to all those who didn't make it out.

Edit......Video link added..Also features ex City player John Hawley.
