    Think along these lines:

So @Welshie's post is probably highly accurate. I think we'll see a circle, name, date, then I think the badge part of the current one (minus seahorses) with the keep and magpie in black and white will be most likely.

It'll be the same badge within a circle I think or just all one colour

Cities new badge is their traditional badge.

Newcastle can easily revert to the older badge we had from 76-83 with a more updated look to it.

I'm with most people on this in the terms that I like our current badge overall, but at the same time I'm aware that clubs change their badges now and again so there isn't a historical "oh my god we cannot ever change it"

it all comes down to if the new design is good or not.

Another aspect is that people are attached to the current and the new will be jarring for the first few years no matter what it looks like.

the traditional coat of arms look of the current badge should remain the overall logo for the club imo. the one you see at St James'.

Liverpool have done the same thing with their "coat of arms" badge as it still is on the famous shankly gates & above "The Kop" the change of crest is specifically for kits and merch.

I love the crest cos it's so ****ing weird - 2 horses with fish tails and wind-up keys in their backs attacking a shield with a chess piece on top, while a lion presides inside chess piece with a YAY! stance for plonking a flag down.

It's bizarre, but awesome at the same time.

I've got a kit from years ago where the logo is just NUF with the C forming a bridge under those letters, it's awful.

I think the awfulness of that design is the main reason it was only the crest for a handful of years.

An argument against traditional crests for me is what Tranmere Rovers did a few years ago, turned in their pretty ****ing nice badge for their "traditional crest" it to be frank looks appalling and stands out like a sore thumb

It's hard to print on tops. Interferes with profit margins.

Mate they can 3d print food for space…a few seahorses and a lion a top a castle isn’t difficult.

It’s probably linked in with cost issues and maximising profit. PB would probably be better to gauge and comment but I would expect that printing the current badge will be more expensive than a simplified version. Then multiply that by a few hundred thousand + shirts.

Digital printing is cheaper than embroidery but would make no difference in costs if it was 1 colour or 10 colours

so no real savings on costs

What about if it’s 11 colours?

then that would push the costs sky high if you have a 10 needle embroidery machine <laugh>

So the cost of shirts will be coming down so we can have a ****e badge?

Rather pay the 87p (or whatever) difference myself!

There’s no real good reason to do it - the only reason I can think is someone associated with the decision is making a lot of money “designing” a new crest.

In 23/24 we apparently sold 490,000 shirts.

Just for arguments sake and to make the maths simple say it’s a £1 difference per shirt that would mean the ‘new’ cheaper badge would give the Club an extra £490,000. Not chicken feed.

It’s like 3 weeks wages for our top earners. It’s big money to you and me but for the club it’s a pittance.
Bet if you asked majority of fans if they’d rather pay an extra quid for their shirts and the badge stayed the same there would be a resounding request for the badge to remain.
