If the ball continues to do all sorts in this match, then Notts might already have a decent score. They shouldn't be anywhere near this position, if we could have held onto our slip catches.
My theory is that Saints and Hampshire have diametrically opposite fortunes - when one does well, the other does badly. Hampshire's woeful showing against Notts will therefore result in a win for Saints. Not today, obviously, but one day soon.
Abbott has very valiantly taken on Notts virtually single handed! If we had held our catches his knock would have dragged us back to parity, or near enough to it.
During the excitement of Saints v Man City, Hampshire have reduced Notts second innings to 59-5. Who's have thought it?
Little sign that batting is any easier, so I'm expecting a heavy defeat even if we take these final wickets quickly. We're in this position for two reasons. The dropped catches, and the decision to not retain Abbas. I can't decide which is worse.
That's a freak innings from Sanderson. 65 off 28, and yet only two 6s hit. And from a guy with a career average of 9! He's really given Northants something to defend now.
Surrey are wobbling. Their random decision to give Roy his first red ball game for five years hasn't paid off.
