Sunderland Under-18s put on a five-star performance on the road, with an emphatic victory over Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League. Despite conceding an early lead to Patrik Farkas' strike, goals from Marcus Neill, Finn Geragusian, Felix Scott and a brace from Trey Ogunsuyi sealed a 5-1 victory. Three points see Jordan Moore's side climb to sixth with the final league fixture against Manchester United next weekend. Manchester United U18 3–1 Sunderland U18 Sunderland Under-18 ended their 2024-25 season with a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United at Carrington on Saturday. Felix Scott gave Jordan Moore’s side the lead after just two minutes, before goals from Amir Ibragimov, Albert Mills, and Victor Musa sealed victory for the hosts. Moore made three changes from last weekend’s 5-1 win over Blackburn, with Scott, Jaydon Jones, and Jack Whittaker replacing Liam Hunt, Finlay Holcroft, and Charlie Dinsdale. The young Black Cats started strongly and could have gone ahead inside the opening minute, but Bayley Hester’s driving run ended with a shot that was palmed away by Cameron Byrne-Hughes. Less than a minute later, Moore’s side did take the lead, as Trey Ogunsuyi’s cut-back found Scott, who side-footed into the bottom-left corner. As the half progressed, the Lads remained a threat on the counter, with Whittaker testing the United ‘keeper. But second-placed United levelled ten minutes before half-time when Amir Ibragimov glanced a header past Ben Metcalf from Shea Lacey’s corner. Six minutes later, another header put the hosts in front, as Mills met Jim Thwaites’ free-kick and powered his effort beyond Metcalf. After Thwaites struck the post, Metcalf produced two excellent close-range saves to deny Samuel Lusale and Lacey in quick succession. Just before the break, Moore’s side thought they had equalised when Whittaker’s effort was blocked by the ‘keeper and Ogunsuyi slotted home the rebound - only to be flagged offside. In the second half, Whittaker saw a long-range drive saved by Byrne-Hughes, while Ogunsuyi’s flick from Aaron Chungh’s low cross drifted wide. United added a third late on when Musa broke in behind and guided his shot into the bottom-right corner. The result means our Under-18's finish sixth in the U18 Premier League North - a fantastic achievement following an impressive campaign.
