I think Brentford bought to sell We seem to buy cause they are cheap and injury prone One in a hundred might make a profit Any other good ones we get we let them leave for free at the end of their contract
Varane signs new long term contract extension. Don't know how long ( 3 months or 30 years). But must be good news
Neither fill me with excitement, just more of the same **** we've been served up. Smyth offered 1 goal on average every 23 games last season and 1 assist every 12 games or so. Both players have good work rates but unfortunately both players are ****.
If Frey got a decent service he would be more effective, you have to play to his strengths which most of the time we don't. The new coach needs to be a little more expansive in our set-up. It'll be worth having a look at Orient's play-off to see the improvement in Kelman this season, I've seen quite a few of his goals on the highlights programme and he reads the box really well, you can't teach that it's instinctive, right place right time. What we definitely need is Chair fully fit and firing and a box to box midfielder that scores regularly. Will we get one? Don't hold your breath...
We focus way too much on stats, we know there's more that goes into scoring a goal than who plays the final ball or has the final kick. I'll bet Smyth is high for actual involvement in goals, could be a decent bit of tracking back that starts an attack, or a cross to the back post that's headed back for someone to finish or just being involved in the attacking move either by movement or passing. But for the ban he would have played every game.
I've nothing against the lad, he works hard, puts the effort in and we don't have any better options, which is why we won't do much more than what we do now, mid to low table finishes.
Did think that myself. Certainly worth more now than a year on the bench with a few late sub appearances.
Looks like Nourry is going to present whoever is the next manager with a squad and say ‘get on with it’. Cook’s injury, which I think is plantar fasciitis, is something that some people never get over, it’s not a simple pull or tear. Cook had a recurrence not long after coming back from the first episode. The best way to get over it/ stop it recurring is rest and avoiding high impact activities. Like playing football for a living.
I’m not reading that much into it. It’s an automatic contract extension whether he’s fit to play 40 games or in August turns up with no limbs. What it does do is take a healthy chunk out of the budget. Given our desperation when we signed he and Colback and the FFP restraints they were working with in that first year I’m pretty sure he’s on a very pleasant salary. Which is fine if he’s at his best.
