Well its done well for us so far Musty. We are a pass or cross in the final 3rd. Im sorry if your a route one kind of person, but I like the passing game. Certain players will suit us that dont suit other teams and that player might cost pennys. Im sure HJ and BR know what they are doing compared to us keyboard warriors
Scott, comment on bbc match preview said Swanseas passing stuff is good, however won 1 game out of last 7 has done very little and have scored the third least amount of goals in the PL - you want to pass, pass, pass and lose or win some games by having a few long range shots and playing ugly for a while????????????????????????????????? you cannot win without scoring goals
CRC, i like the passing game but there is no killer instinct, that is the point i am trying to make, need someone like Gerrard who can hit the 25 yd screamer or at least have a go, without trying to walk the ball in
Agree to some point Musty, but 25 yard screamers are few and far between and cant be relied on to win games. They look good, and help out, but id rather our forwards and midfielders to get into the box. Our wingers are usually so fast, when they get a chance to cross or square the ball, theres no one there!!! Thats the annoying part.
I know we can't win without scoring goals. I maintain though, that abandoning, even in part, our current philosophy is ludicrous! We've got from League Two to the Premiership by sticking to our guns (although granted, Martinez kick-started it for us) so to change now just because it MIGHT do some good is mental! As I, and lots of people have said, if we get relegated, it really isn't the end of the world. We'll still have a quality squad (how many would go if we were to be relegated is a matter of opinion), we'll have more money than ever before, and we'll have gained massive exposure all over the world so merchandising/fanbase etc will have improved markedly, setting us up yet further for the future. In a nutshell, I think if our current system isn't good enough, then we need to get better at it, not change it.
In a nutshell, I think if our current system isn't good enough, then we need to get better at it, not change it.... spot on scotty ! and when a few of our players start to shine it will be a hell of a team plus any quality additions to come will help to.
Well said Scott We have progressed so much over the last few years and havnt bankrupt ourselves doing it. Why spend millions and millions to try and stay up this year and still go down, when we can keep to our philosophy and invest in the infrastructure of the club to progress us within financial limits. Hopefully we will stay up and impress along the way, but to risk the clubs long term future for the sake of 1 season of glory, no thanks!!!
Scott, you have made my point, this way of playing has got us from the L2 to the PL, it isnt working in the PL imo (to a certain degree), if it isnt changed is back to the Champ, have to play horses for courses, havnt any of you doubters actually played the game
We don't know how to play any other way though musty! The club have said time and time again, this is going to be the way we play for years to come, and nothing is going to change no matter how much people clamour for change. It isn't working according to a lot of people, but the professionals in charge of the club clearly believe in it and that is good enough for me.
Scott, its a good system and i cant deny that, just don't have the players at PL level to pull it off imo, go down or change a wee bit, not rocket science
I don't think that anyone wants to change our style but we need to be more aggressive with it in the final third. Far too often we get behind the defence only to find that there's no support. This perhaps makes Dyer's final ball look worse than it is. It's a far harder job to pick out one striker (who is usually well marked because he's on his own) than to play a percentage ball into the box knowing that there will be several attackers looking to get on the end of it. All I want is for the team to mix it up a little. Fine football though we play, it is far too predictable - teams KNOW that we will try and play through them and set up accordingly. It certainly won't hurt to play the odd early ball to catch defenders out. If we do this it keeps them guessing and uncertain. And, as we all know, uncertainty is the thing that gains you those precious few seconds to find space and do some damage.
thank you Ivor, my point exactly, Scott seems to want the L2 style of play and not change it, wake up Scott, big boys now and i am tipping us to lose in the Cup
Scott, you amuse me sometimes, as a fan you are entitled to an opinion, as a chap who has never played the game you are a bit of a silly boy, get ur ass out, play the game and learn
Three overlooked points about our passing game ... 1 - the more we have the ball , the less time they have an opportunity to do something with it ... 2 - passing it around spreads the opponents formation up & opens passing lanes ...,. 3 - it makes the opponents a lot more tired by the 70 th or so minute trying to conform to the amount of passing they have to deal with ... more pros to our passing than one thinks IMO
I have played the game thank you very much, and seeing as I'm entitled to my opinion I'll state that if I hadn't wrecked my ankle aged 10 through 15 I'd still be a lot more heavily involved in sport than I currently am. Rugby, football, I'm interested in everything. You can't complain when people pull you up on silly comments like "pass pass yawn" or whatever it was you posted though, seeing as thousands upon thousands of Swansea fans are (rightly) immensely proud of how our team play. You tell me to "go play the game", I say "come watch one". Edit: I just saw your "I want the L2 style of play" comment. I'm now gutted I bothered writing a coherent response to your other post, to be honest. L2 football? Try telling that to Barcelona "We mix it up, we do" Football Club.
my comment was pass pass pass yawn and do sfa with it Scott, i watch the Swans every week on telly so i prob get a better view than you who never goes to a match. As to your last comment i said the L2 L1 style of play will not work in the PL as has been proven. Having said that, 14 pts, 3rd worst goalscoring, tf for Vrom (6 clean sheets) mate PM me if u have a drama, dont want to mess the board up with our disagreement because it can go forever
While I haven't been this season, and have no problem admitting that, I've seen the Swans live god knows how many times musty, and I've seen pretty much every match this year on tv (although it's not the same). I have no problems with anyone's views but you have a very ingratiating knack of putting your views across in a way that can only be seen as knocking the Swans. That I don't like. How is it been proven that our style of football won't keep us up? At the end of the season, if we get relegated, you can crow all you want about how you were right all along, but I won't care as I know the club didn't break the bank, stayed within our budget and will ultimately be set up for the future, and another tilt at getting into the Premiership. As I've said millions of times, if the right player is available at the right price, go for him, and no-one can pretend we're not looking for a goal scoring midfielder, because we need one. Criticising what we have, and our style of play, is just stupid though because we're stuck with it, whether you like it or not. I don't see it as a drama, and sorry if it appears if it comes across as banging on, but if you will criticise certain aspects of the club that other people like a lot, there'll be a debate about it.
Scott, i am trying to bring in constructive criticism, you like the pass pass fk all game, i like a variation and shots from out of the 6 yard box
I'll leave it here, but I'll say for the record you've a very weird idea of "constructive criticism".
