Gino speaks - and a few fans are going to be unhappy with what he says...

    :

It is 13 years since we first invested in Watford and, in that time, this magnificent football club has changed enormously.

Vicarage Road is a home that every single one of us can be proud of and a fitting stadium for fans who deserve the best.

We have had some wonderful highs – seasons in the Premier League and several visits to Wembley – but of course, some inevitable disappointments, which are part of football.

But this is not meant as a history lesson. This is about the present and the future of the club under our ownership.

One thing that has never changed is the special spirit of this football club and, while there have been challenges, I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on the season just gone and reaffirm our absolute commitment to Watford Football Club.

I realise we have a responsibility to make this club the very best that it can be and I am energised in my determination to make Watford competitive, successful and challenge for a return to the Premier League.

This is a responsibility we all take incredibly seriously. The Championship is tough because there is a depth to the competition which makes it one of the hardest leagues in the world.

But I have seen real signs this season that we have the talent within our squad to challenge for the play-off places next season and, hopefully, promotion.

Yes, there has been a lack of consistency at times which saw us drop away when I thought we could be in the top six, but we have a group of highly talented young players who will only have benefitted from the experience of this season and what it means to compete in the Championship.

Tom is a bright young coach who has a real future in the game, but he needs time to gain experience and in football time is a precious commodity. I felt, to achieve our immediate aims next season, we need a more experienced coach to get the best out of our squad.

Results and performances, certainly after Christmas, were those of a club in a relegation fight and we couldn’t allow that momentum to continue into the next campaign.

I have seen the reaction, and I accept that. I realise there will be some fans who, no matter what we say, are not going to agree with us. This is normal; it’s football and I respect that the game is all about strong opinions.

What I will say is that we believe we have made the correct decision for the good of the football club. That is the basis for every decision we take.

Going forward, we will do everything in our power to keep those more experienced players in our squad to help the younger members in their development.

We are not abandoning the model which has served us well over the years: identifying youth and developing it. But we recognise the need to keep this current squad together and build on it if we want to be successful.

The club will never be jeopardised financially, but we will do everything possible to provide stability and growth where the playing side is concerned.

To those who may not agree with everything that has happened, I can assure you we all recognise our responsibility to the football club, and we take every decision for the benefit of Watford.

That is what we strive for every single day, and we will continue to do so throughout the summer and into next season.

    Thank you

If that guy is the favourite why was he not able to guideTom when he obviously needed it

Now i know and understand why we are annoyed because it felt like Tom was one of our own but all the people I know who were Watford supporters and those who were not but took an interest because they knew me and all the people sit with all had the same comments about certain things, pre match interview He is saying the same things over and over again but nothing is changing, post match autopsy He is making the same excuses over and over again and nothing he says to the players is improving them, and the most used one We had a plan but this or that happened and we were unable to adapt

If this had been a manager we had never heard of making the same mistakes over and over again we would've been demanding or at least hoping for change

Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I am now convinced giving him the main job was a mistake at that time, he did not have the experience needed and our owners were never going to allow him to learn on the Job long term, would he have thrown hissy fit if the owners had said him at the time, Tom you did a great job for us but now is not the right time for you but we want you to stay and work with the new Head Coach and learn from him and maybe in a couple of years the could be ready to be our Head Coach

Whatever happens next we are Watford FC, Owners, Managers and Player come and go but we are always here and we have to get behind the team next season to try to make the season a success

I think that's about right. However, it seems even more obvious that some sort of mentor figure to help TC would have been a better option than the one chosen. I do believe the owners words in his statement, but he doesn't have much if any sensitivity. A good thing ? A bad thing ? Who knows. - not me.

Seems to be a lot of names just being thrown around ?

As for Gino - he probably just does what he likes and tough if people don’t like it .

Seems happy with the squad ..

Not sure many will agree with that

I agree with you on his statement, it seems to be his truth and sincere but not how we will see things short term

He is almost saying that he made the mistake of promoting Tom too soon and it did not work out

I agree with what they have done for the Club but they made mistakes in recruiting which cost us

As an aside, I've been to watch Lens play - long time ago, mind. Fans come from miles to watch games - the coach park is massive! Local rivals are Lille, which is the change city off the Eurostar to take the local train to Lens. Very fond memories of my visit.

Oh, he spent a fair few years with Pachuca & Los Rayados (Monterrey) I don't follow Mexican football too much so can't add anything else that might even be slightly useful, apart from that he's a snappy dresser to rival QSF. Not quite QSF's dress level, but not far off!

And regarding TC, if he didn't have any connections to the club beforehand, I think most would have wanted him gone.

Let's not be too sentimental about this sacking!

I have been wondering about the Gino statement, not what he said, but why? He normally keeps his thoughts to himself, so what is different this time?

He knows it is a very unpopular decision. Personally I understand it results and performances wise (as Mex says) as it's been grim, but I don't agree with the sacking as TC wasn't properly supported.

    Exactly .

Trying to explain himself but as you say won’t go down well .

People are reacting very badly to all this as if Cleverley was one of their own children or family member .

I fear the next manager will basically be given no chance or super basically because he isn’t Tom Cleverley !

We could appoint Jurgen Kloop and not sure that would satisfy people!

You want some German who hasn't worked for a year and whose team provided us with one of our easiest victories in a relegation season?

    Well good point!

It doesn’t bode well for the new manager as they won’t get support from the fans or as you say will have such high demands with little to work with potentially that they will are going to be under pressure straight away .

Is Pozzo expecting us to be top 6 basically all season ?
