I wonder if we revisit the deal for Mohamed Bamba. I know we were keen in the summer with that last minute 11m bid
They’ve just got promoted haven’t they? No idea how he’s done like but will probs ad a few more million to the price tag edit 3 goals 6 assists in 17 games
Yeah just an overall good season for them - slightly loan reliant so we'll see. Do think there is so much value and quality in Belgium and Netherlands but always find it hard to judge which players would be willing to make the move to the championship/low prem. Seeing teams in league one sign pretty decent eredevisie players has sort of warped my expectations but with the right money I suppose anything is doable.
Even the ones that go to midtable/lower league championship clubs, one decent Championship season gets you a PL move now
My brother (in his 50's now) is football daft (He climbed over a razor wire fence and was chased by police brandishing machine guns in order to get into the England v Germany 1-5 win. He was shot in Zurich when following England v Liechtenstein.) He's been all over Europe following England and all over the country following Sunderland. He was at the Oxford away game recently for gawds sake! He's at a point now where he isnt particularly bothered whether Sunderland get promoted or not. Since relegation from the Premier League he has getting more enjoyment out of football and his season ticket. Witnessing competitive games, being entertained, alongside his 18 year old son. Knowing that we might win, not wondering how much we are gonna get beaten by. That attitude is the other side of the coin and I'm not surprised that others agree with it. I myself sympathize with it! If we dont get promoted this season, though disappointed, I will be comforted by the fact that at least we will not be in the Premier League. Helping prop up a that stain on the modern game. Another season in the Championship where football is as it should be? Fair enough.
I can see and respect that when you've said it like that. I still don't fundamentally get it in all honesty but that's fine
It’s like not wanting your son to be a world champion boxer because you’d rather watch him beat up journeymen because it’s easier
In the premiership you are the journeyman getting beat up every week, but enjoy watching that, weird.
Well if being in the premiership means you’re the journeyman then what on earth does playing in the championship make you? Worse than trampled on dogshite?
I really don’t understand what’s weird about fans wanting their club to play at the highest level possible, the whole point of sport is to be the best you can be
This whole place seems to be the same 2 or 3 arguments over and over again it’s going to **** and will only be worse if we miss out on promotion, I get people like the championship it’s stupidly competitive it’s fun 100% I also get the argument about state owned clubs, var, huge gap in quality from those coming up to those established but **** me, when did we become this mediocre accept anything club ‘oh well we used to be In league one’ so **** we used to be in the premier league for a decade straight too, historically we are a top flight club let’s show abit of ****ing ambition man instead of being scared of what could happen
Nout i want more than to see us pushing as high as we can. Doing what the likes of Brentford, Brighton, Forest, Bournemouth, Fulham etc have done when they came up, stay up and improve and see top quality calibre of players arrive and play for us again
Do you think KLD, KS, RLB and the players are weird for wanting promotion? I like winning games in the Championship but I like it because it gets us closer to promotion, if you just want to win games but not be promoted then what is the point? Glorified friendlies at that point. The money promotion brings is quite literally transformative. Luton, even though they've been horrific, are getting a new stadium because of the promotion. Have you seen Bournemouths new training ground? Or Leicesters new training ground? Wouldn't be building them without that PL money.
Literally no reason we can’t emulate that, we’re bigger than Brentford Brighton Bournemouth and Fulham, granted they have the pull of London/being near London
