You can want more than one thing but be forced to make a decision between one or the other.

Trent loves Liverpool FC and he was genuine when kissing the badge, he would have been genuine about captaining the club (something he's done btw) but he also wanted to experienced something else. He couldn't do both so had to make a decision.

    You are correct
    Everyone is really

People have the right to feel misled because he possibly chose his words and actions poorly

You have the right to bear him no ill will and wish him the best

I bear no malice toward him - I am merely pointing out that I can understand why people feel betrayed by his words and actions

coming from an area like Liverpool which has always had a very strong working class ethos - this will feel personal to a lot of people out there. I can understand their reasoning.

in fact I would go as far as to say I understand their logic of feeling betrayed by him more than I understand the words TAA has spoken as to why he has chosen to move.

when Stevie G claimed he was leaving Liverpool to win trophies - that never resonated with me as truthful because at that point in his career only one trophy had eluded him

to me the truth was Stevie G felt he could never win the Prem with us and ultimately he was proved correct and he wished to leave to have a better chance to win it. To that end I feel he was trying to deceive his fans

    I think TAA is similar

I wouldn't blame the club - not without something more concrete than speculation to go on. Clearly he had decided he wanted to go so what where they supposed to do? If reports are accurate then he's been offered a really lucrative contract and turned it down, so I don't know what other options were open to them.
You could perhaps say that they could have sold him earlier and got some dosh, but perhaps they felt he could be persuaded in the end. They might have screwed up a bit in that sense, but you can only persuade a player to stay, you can't force him.
And if he doesn't want to be here I don't want him here, and I'm sure you've said similar about other players.
Imo this was a unilateral decision that nobody else could do anything about.

I tend to think it's more ego than laziness. I've said for years (long before he showed an inclination to leave) that he seems to have bought into his own rep. As a local lad he was afforded legend status at far too young an age and he seems to have believed it.
I feel like he seems himself as a midfield general, strolling around and spraying balls about, rather than the real graft required of a FB.
Could be wrong of course - I'm not in his head - but that's the impression I've had since he was about 20.

I don't blame anyone, it's just as situation that's developed. I did say "if you want to point a finger"

I've said a number of times in the last few years he seemed to believe defending is beneath him .

I know, but I'm saying it would be incorrect to point that finger at the club. I fail to see what they could have done to prevent him leaving, so in this instance they are blameless.

Seemingly Madrid would like him early for their upcoming tournament in June. The audacity .

Willing to pay some fee too which is likely just the remaining wages he has left until end of June.

So play him into the ground and let him enjoy the last few minutes of being a Liverpool player I feel...

Certainly has a cavalier attitude towards it. Could probably count on one hand genuine attempts to stop a cross going in. Jogging backwards and being completely left standing by a winger was a common issue and being smoked on the edge of the box allowing them through was another.

I'm not sure if he thought it was beneath him or he wanted to adopt a demeanour like VvD, where everything looks effortless - it isn't and he is a one off!

No we have a decision to make on what kind of right back we want to sign, so Bradley needs games to make that decision easier.

    This.

He isn't retiring so no sentimentality required. He is no longer part of our plans so should be on the bench now without a doubt.

For me, you were the first person who pointed this out and I didn't agree but with hindsight being 20/20, you were right.

The thing that has stood out to me, which I've mentioned before, is his immaturity. There was an instance.in the past, that I'm not going to highlight, that showed it perfectly. I also think his friendship with Bellingham, which I find funny given the 5 year age difference (when Trent was winning the PL and CL medals, Bellingham was in school doing his GCSE'S) has been instrumental in putting the move to RM into his head.

Obviously he's free to do whatever he likes but I think it's a shame that he has given up joining the 'legends club' along with Dalglish and the like because he would have deserved that. Local fans are definitely seeing the move in a different light. I only hope the doesn't get booed.

It’s like Carragher said, if a player wants to leave there is nothing you can do to stop it. You can try offer new deal, you can ever try to sell them but the player doesn’t have to accept anything if their heart is set on leaving at the end of the deal.

Not sure what age difference has to do with anything?

I don’t think he’ll be booed at the ground. Fans that go seem a lot more level Headed than those online (present company excluded!) and the outrage on Twitter is just that, Twitter outrage.

I think majority of fans are in the middle, upset he’s going but appreciate he’s won everything and you only get 1 chance to play for Madrid who are the biggest club side in world football. When you retire imagine being able to say you played and won everything at your boyhood club and spent 5/6 years at Madrid winning X following the footprints of players like Zidane R9, figo etc

You don't know how local fans despise RM more than utd. The destination in his leaving is playing a massive part in fans emotions.

I'm really not bothered that he's going. He's been at the club for 20 years, he's won everything he possibly can at club level with the team.

Good luck to him, he just wants to try something new.

Not actually Robbie, but the sentiment is right. He's only chosen to come out and make his statement now because he wants to get his new contract sorted so he can play in that infernal tournament.

Just do it already and screw as much as possible from Real. I was for supporting him in the last 3 games and the parade, but he obviously wants to be gone now asap, so just burn this bridge and have done with it.
