Have sent an ask to Cov directly. I might be able to get a seat in their posh bit, if I am really lucky. Not the same, but nevertheless. I will be happy enough in my armchair doing a uri gellar and transmitting spoon bending energy
This has been the hope that I have been clinging to. I seem to remember RLB saying something about us managing our expectations over the final few games. For me that was his coded way of saying 'we've got nothing to gain from winning these games so I'm going to use them to rest the players and try and lull our play-off opponents into a false sense of optimism.' I'm expecting the real Sunderland to reappear in the first leg, energetic press and quick passing.
Well for the first time that I can recall, i have no idea of what we are about to see. 50+ seasons and this must be the strangest ending of them all. Finishing 4th was a great result from where we were last year, but the last 6 games have me baffled. Only time to actually review this season is after we finish this last stage. So lets get on with it. Play offs are bloody awful if your teams in it but we are at least veterans at them ...
Whatever happens he won't be sacked. After the run of injuries, to really important players, he won't have been expected to make anything better than the playoffs. And sacking him would cement our reputation for being quick to sack managers ... ... not great for attracting anyone credible as the next one.
I wouldn’t bet on him not being sacked but if he was it would be harsh because despite the form he has done a really really good job. The problem he has is the trajectory of the past few months, definitely a decline. I do lean towards him getting next season either way, think he’s done enough to deserve that. Only worry is we get off to a slow start next year and he ends up going by October, would be a waste of the summer. Hopefully doesn’t come to that and we’ve made a steady start in the prem
Wouldn't say it's worse but that would also not be good. I really wouldn't be surprised if we made a change if the playoffs go badly. The club actively wanted to do so after Mowbray over performed expectations more than RLB has. Hope it doesn't come to that though.
If we go without a whimper then I think he may go. Club follow ‘trends’ very closely (see statement when Monday was sacked). Hopefully will never find out, though, as we blast ourselves to the PL
I think we’d be naive and silly to give him the start of next season if we bomb out of playoffs with the same awful performances as it’s not just been the last five games. We’ve seen the form and style getting worse week in week since Leeds. If we can’t turn it up for the big playoff games then you need to get someone in who’s more positive in their style of play imo in the summer as it would just be ignoring the blatant obvious at that point. but here’s to RLB turning it around on Friday! I have hope
All too hypothetical for me tbh ... ... if we want the team to be up for these games I think we should be ourselves. Plenty of time for managerial discussions afterwards imo.
Oh it’s 100% hypothetical. It’s all just conversation and debate isn’t it on here. I think this opinion but when it’s time to back the lads I will as always
I'd be very surprised if we sacked Regis, regardless of what happens, we chose him for a reason. He's inexperienced in the role but has shown a lot of promise.
A hostile atmosphere for the home leg is absolutely essential. Needs to be nasty, because you know for a fact the away leg will be.
