What Farke has done over two seasons has been remarkable. There are those who will say he inherited a great squad. To the best of my knowledge only about two of today’s starters were at club when he arrived, he masterminded bringing in the others. We’ve lost numerous quality players along the way, the likes of Summerville, georginho and Archie to name but three. But with every departure we seemed to get stronger. Now I’ve no idea if he’s about to be sacked but if he is it’ll be one of the stupidest decisions I’ll have see in my lifetime of watching Leeds. Time for owners to put their hands in their pockets for very first time and back our top top manager
I’ll refrain from commenting on my doubts about his PL capabilities as he was employed to get us promoted and he’s delivered. I do believe everyone from top down deserves some credit, the club backed him with two of the best championship teams for their respective years. He did come in at a time of turmoil, he did have a say in the signings that improved us this season, he did what I expected us to do but it still needed doing. Great season, I’m appreciative of what he has achieved, I’d give him a chance next season but that’s me saying that when emotions are high and heart is over ruling head It will be interesting to see where we are at 7 days from now
AI is amazing. That looks totally authentic but Eddie was totally done with Leeds last summer when his poor millionaire great nephew was forced out by the club
Yes we had a really good squad. But DF helped build it. He’s manager not coach, no DOF, so he has final say on all signings. It’s his team. The guy’s done great. If he’d been less stubborn about the goalkeeper, and Sheffield united and Burnley had’t ridden their luck all season we’d have won the league by 15-20 points. Way more goals than anyone else, way more ‘big chances’ than anyone else, way more shots on and off target, more corners, more possession, more touches in the opposition box. Second best defence, in terms of goals against, and best defence in terms of expected goals against… better than Burnley). And still some people moan. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
"Two years ago today Leeds were replacing Javi Gracia with Sam Allardyce. The club was a complete mess when Daniel Farke came in. "Within that time he's had to see over £200m worth of talent leave the club and he's spent next to nothing. "Despite all that, we have accumulated 190 points over his two years in charge and I don't think any other manager could have done that. "For that I can't believe people doubt him. He's the man to lead Leeds United in the Premier League." -Adam Pope
Yes credit where it’s due but reflect on this Plymouth entire squad value £32m Leeds entire squad value £189m Despite having that £200m worth of talent leave last year, he still had a very talented squad and you could ask, why didn’t he manage it last season if he had that extra £200m worth of talent at his disposal I’d give him a chance in the PL, but if we have the opportunity to upgrade very quickly we have to take it. I don’t was Russell Martin, Van Bronkhurst or some of the other unproven coaches We want the playing squad improved, we’d think nothing of swapping/selling players for better, why should the coach be different If better is available take it "Despite all that, we have accumulated 190 points over his two years in charge and I don't think any other manager could have done that.“ Sorry I totally disagree, plenty could with those squads that were available and we shouldn’t have been here this season if Farke was that good, he should have got us promoted last season Last season, his team selection, insisting Piroe was a 10 and Archie was a RB and a few other calls cost us vital points Will I be happy entering a new season with DF in charge, YES Would I be happy with someone better leading us YES I’m happy our board seem ambitious and have the balls for big decisions
I think you might be missing the point, another coach may have matched DF’s 190 points but no one better was prepared to take the challenge. The board might make a change, that’s their decision not ours, the question is has Farke done enough to earn the chance, which for me is yes. Can his style of playing work in the premier league? Yes but only if the recruitment is good. But, as this is an appreciation thread I’ll just say thanks to him for two enjoyable seasons and one memorable one
I believe any of the coaches who finished in the top 6 last season and the top 6 this season would have been capable of getting the same amount of points with the same players. I do feel a few coaches would not have required season two so you are right, they would have not matched 190 points as we would have been in the PL last season BUT.. Would those other coaches have managed to recognise Bogle, Tanaka, Gruev and company so I will leave it on a positive
Yes, Leeds should be getting out of this division with the funds available but it's not a guarantee. I agree that there might have been a few managers who could have got it done in one season but how many were available? For every manager who could have gotten it done better than Farke, there is another 30 that would have ****ed it up. Look at Luton. They had a bigger budget than us and they went down to league 1 this year. Farke has done a very good job given the circumstances he inherited.
Our final expected points was 102 according to opta Burnley’s was 76. we were miles, and I mean miles better than Burnley (and everyone else) in every performance stat except goals conceded… and even then our expected goals against was a fair bit better than there’s. in terms if what he can control (excepting changing the keeper) his team was light years better than the rest of the league.
End of the speculation. Well played Paraag Paraag Marathe has PUBLICLY backed Farke to take Leeds into the PL in an interview this morning with the Financial Times. those reports were “nothing” said Marathe "I do have something to say and, and you know, I am someone who will speak when I have something to say and and when I feel like it's the right time for me," said Paraag. "I'm not one to respond because some random gossip paper guy wants to say something, I'm not going to make comments based on rumors and gossip. “But now, today is different” “I was waiting for the season to conclude, I wanted to win a trophy, just like Daniel did, just like the players did, just like all the staff did, and we got that goal” “My plan was always to come and speak to you all right after the season concluded, and so that time is now, and I want to tell you all that I'm very excited to run it back with Daniel in the premier league. “I'm really excited about collaborating with Daniel, with Robbie Evans, who we promoted to managing director, with Adam Underwood, who we promoted to sporting director, and together, we are going to build the best squad that we can with every penny that we're allowed to spend to go and compete in the Premier League." ‼️on the recent difficulty that newly-promoted teams have had staying in the PL‼️ “we have something that they don't” "I'm under no illusions that it's going to be easy," he said. "I know all the stats, last season's three promoted clubs went right back down, Two years ago, three promoted clubs went right back down, but we have something that they don't. “We have Daniel Farke, first of all, and a tremendous coaching staff, we have players that believe that the sum of the parts are greater than the individual pieces. “We have a community that supports our club, We have a 28,000-person paid season ticket waiting list” “28,000 is more than many Premier League clubs' actual season ticket list” “We have great partners in Red Bull, and now, obviously our front of shirt goes up significantly, So there's an opportunity for us to take all of that extra revenue, and literally all of that extra revenue, and pour it right back onto the pitch." “I’ve spoken to Daniel privately a while ago, so I could inform him of the plans to continue to work together” He paid tribute to the way in which Farke has handled the pressure that Leeds came under towards the end of the season when doubt crept into the narrative but not into the manager's mind. “We continue to stay in touch all the time...” "He is such a calming force, You know, presence would be an understatement if I say calming presence, he's just a calming force for supporters, for players, for the club," said Marathe. "He really has a superpower that way, He told you all he was 100 per cent confident that we're going to the Prem, and he believed it. I love him for it. He has that conviction and belief” “I did tell him privately that I'm looking forward to moving forward together, and I just didn't feel like it was my time to speak just because someone wanted to put out a rumor or whatever, It wasn't my place in time to speak at that point, But I did talk to him privately straight away." I also expressed my sympathy for Daniel and his staff at having to listen to the speculation after reports were published in the Daily Mail, Telegraph and Guardian suggesting we were considering replacing him and had drawn up a list of potential successors. "I do want to say I feel bad about the last couple weeks of all that speculation," he said. "I felt bad that Daniel and the coaches probably felt they were twisting in the wind a little bit. “I tried to do what I could privately, It just felt like to me, I'm going to speak when I have something to say and when the time is right, It's unfortunate that somebody else tried to speculate something a week or two ago, because today was always the moment I was going to speak with you." and that is, “Daniel Farke will take Leeds United into the Premier League with the backing he needs” @everyone
He had a lot to say when he could have spoke sooner and squashed the rumours, at least we know where we stand Onwards now with building a team that can avoid relegation, we already had a head start last week so I’m hoping we have a growing shortlist of realistic and interested targets I guess it also means we won’t be seeing Doc for a while
He made a statement within 24 hours of the season finishing. Totally professional in my eyes. If he’d spoken sooner he would have been accused of taking the limelight and you can be certain many wouldn’t have believed him anyway. Now he’s played his hand we’ll find out if Farke is up to it providing he honours his pledge that substantial additional funds are going directly to the playing squad.
I think he played into the rumour mill by cancelling his arranged Sky Interview. I do wonder if it’s no smoke without a fire, not that it really matters, he’s made the decision, let’s get some early transfers done and dusted
Well he'd just taken over the team and it takes time to get it playing the way he wants plus we'd just lost a few quality players thanks to Victor Orta's contracts and the squad was in upheaval And don't forget that Bielsa also failed in his first year. People damn Farke but somehow they give Bielsa a pass, even though Farke has exceeded Bielsa's record in their respected 2nd seasons. That's a foolish mentality. Swapping the coach/manager is an absolute last resort If you buy a player and he turns out to be not so good, you've lost the price of his transfer fee. But if you sack the manager when things are doing OK, and he fails, then it'll cost you many times more, plus the next manager you bring in has to start from scratch again with a brand new transfer budget. Man Utd are going through this right now....they sacked ten Hag with Amorim and he's doing worse. So do they sack him too or trust him with a big transfer budget ? It's a big dilemma for them this Summer. And don't forget that Alex Ferguson, their most successful manager ever, had a very poor start there. Lastly, how do we know who is better than Farke and available ?
Comparing Farke and Bielsa has been done to death, Farke had a team worth over £250m newly relegated with several PL players. Bielsa inherited a bang average championship team and turned them into one of the best Championship teams. I don’t know who would be better than Farke and available, that’s up to Paraag. I don’t want Jose but he said he’d be open to the move, to argue he is not better than Farke would run out of argument pretty quickly
