I think the style reflected the situation we were in this season. If we scored first, we’d try to hold onto a lead. We had a mindset of ‘try not to lose’ first and foremost which is negative but also won us crucial points. It also lost us crucial points in relegation six-pointers. After a full pre-season and summer transfer window with a fresh start in terms of points on the board, who knows? He may implant a more recognisable style of play that is better in possession whilst still being good defensively. I hope he gets the chance. If it’s not working or improving after 10-15 games and we’re at the bottom of the table again, then fair enough. The club would be right in assessing his future. To sack him in the coming days would be self-harm equal to sacking Rosenior.
Listen to his interview after the game today. He talks about next season and how we'll improve in attack. He explicitly states it's a priority and that to do it he'll change the approach (which a full pre-season and reset will allow him to do) and also recruit new bodies with that specific goal in mind. It sounded a lot like what Rosenior said ahead of his first full season, and he did it. I thought it was very convincing. I think people underestimate the value of the full summer of prep, reset and a pre-season when it comes to turning a struggling, bottom end side into a front-footed one competing at the top end.
thats exactly what i've been saying its obvious really but anyone who wants selles gone is a moron and not even worth a debate in my honest opinion
A lot was made of Rosenior being a young manager, Selles is only one year older and also a young manager with similar potential, both also the age Marko Silva was when here, let's not do anything rash.
I thought it was interesting that he essentially said that we've not been playing the ideal way he wants to play, and that that will be the plan for next season.
Some people seem to think that this is just Selles' style of play. If I believed he was capable of nothing more than this then I wouldn't be that bothered about keeping him.
If he sacks Sellés, I’ll seriously consider whether to keep my membership or not, just out of principle. There’s a line and for many, it was the name change under the Allams. I don’t want to give my money to a ****er who seems hellbent on harming the club with his moronic decisions and seems incapable of learning from his mistakes. I went to every home game this season and a few away games and it was miserable. I’m prepared to do it all again but not if the owner is determined to **** the club at every opportunity he gets.
People screech for a manager change then wet the bed about us going broke. You can't have it both ways. The idea that we're even considering moving him on is bonkers.
I’d argue that because of the situation at reading the pressure was off in a way. Not much was expected and he excelled. I wouldn’t get rid of him. That’s not what I’m saying. I do find the end to the season and the approach in games against teams around us very alarming. I was in the mindset that we had a team of pretty standard championship quality players who were in a false position and just needed to be instilled with some good tactics and man management. Maybe I’m being too harsh on Selles and the players aren’t up to scratch? They certainly haven’t looked much cop lately. Until a month or so ago I was cup half full. I thought with injured/suspended players returning we were only really a couple of full backs and a striker away from competing at the top end of a not very good division. The more I see this lot play the more I don’t know anymore??? anyway. We’re safe. That’s all that matters for now. Let just hope next season we have a proper go.
mike whites a proper **** actually for leaving that little hint with no substance its awful journalism the **** its just so poor, to leave the game with a hint on social media like that its awful actually he should be shamed in my honest opinion we couldn't even have an hour post game without rumours about the future of the management the players flew from southampton about 6 30pm theyre not idiots, this stuff gets to them it really really annoys me
Also, I’m inclined to trust Howden and ST about the club telling players in March that they need to leave in the summer so my opinion of Sellés’ tactics and approach post-international break is influenced by that. If that is true, then he’s had a much more difficult job than before the international break and deserves credit for dragging us over the line.
I must have missed those posts. But I’m also inclined to believe what Howden says. So if that’s the case and certain players weren’t motivated from March then he has had a much harder job than I first thought
but again without specific players, it's meaningless you said kamara wasnt with the away fans which was wrong, and im not trying to criticise you its just an example of how stuff can quickly overblow every single club has pros who are told they will be leaving at the same point it's **** that makes a lot of noise with no basis
Heckingbottom slated majority of his squad during the IB and suggested they were going to be gone, we're not unique.
