Without a doubt, Diaz performs best from the left. He's been doing a job in the middle but he's half the player centrally to what he is on the left.
He’s more than that. 12 goals and 5 assists in 33 prem games 3 goals in 9 in the CL Not many other left wingers putting up those kind of figures in the prem. 1 in 2 goal involvements which is where he should be.
Not sure. I think at start of season they were rotating a lot out in left wing and only when Jota got injured and Diaz moved centrally that it became a consistent front 3.
But he is **** at 9. He had one good cl game. Scored a hat trick and then he's there all the time for a while but when it really mattered cbs bullied him. He gets in well in a quasi mane type way on the end of stuff from salah, as did gakpo. But he's never going to hold a ball up or link play in the middle.
He's not able to play that role in the prem. He's scoring from a mane style coming into the middle from side not being a 9. If we are deep and need to have someone to get us up the park he is just destroyed by cbs. This stuff is OK when you've 70% possession anyway where a guy can drift about anywhere he wants but once a gsme is more even the position becomes so.much more problematic.
Got to be Diaz to make up to £170m, though I hope it isn't. God forbid it's Macca - reports that Real are sniffing around and a fee of £77m has been mooted, by the Spanish press, d'accord. They can ****ing double that just to start the conversation. I think we need to build the future team around Macca, and get plenty of cover in for him, as he can look overworked if he nudges 60 games a season. Bloody fantastic last Sunday though, even without his Goal Of The Season (it will be - we'll make it so!). That's why we need another Szobbo as well - when he gets 12k in for a match it frees everyone else up. He can't do that for 60 games (plus internationals) either. We need another good no8 with Hendo-type legs as well. I honestly think midfield this summer needs shoring up as much as defence and attack.
And how often are we deep and he gets destroyed by Cb’s? Thats like saying TAA is **** because when we’re back to the walls defending he gets beaten over and over… ignoring the fact that for 75% of games we’re on the front foot attacking and it plays to his strengths. Diaz is never going to be a top class cf. but he’s better for us in our system than Nunez because he floats around and picks up the ball and can beat a man and is prob a better finisher. Do we need another 9? Of course but Diaz has done a decent job there and been the starting cf for a team that won the prem. not sure if he was ‘****’ in the role that slot would continue to play him there.
Links with Sesko and Simons from RBL. Sesko an option one at 9. Been talked about with every top club for last few years and seems matter of time before he goes. Simons would be interesting. Been very good last few years on loan and then perm deal from psg. Proper number 10 and adds a lot of creativity but strikes me as a slightly improved Elliott, but not sure would offer same kind of work rate and running power as szobo.
Several times. If he plays there tomorrow he might get little joy but we will see but put him there against arsnela and he will be anonymous. Seriously he is not a 9 never will be a 9 and that is my firm opinion. When the game difficult increases and our share of the ball decreases (hope half games and better European games) then you need a forward you can rely on in central positions to hold the ball and bring others into play.
Well he’s been our best cf this year so not sure what problem is. Would you have rather played Nunez there? 7 goals in 13 is pretty good going for a makeshift CF And I don’t remember us being back to the wall in several games. We dominate possession in most and are attacking in the vast majority of them. Yoire talking like we’re Forest and 10 men behind the ball with a target man up to hold onto the long ball and bring others into play. We’ve not played that way once this season
Best of what? Come on lads. You know what a proper 9 looks like. nunez has this really weird habit of running competly out of the scoring zone of danger toes rising the near post. Can't hit the side of a barn with a banjo. Jota can't stay fit at all. So let's not start making out that diaz is fine at cf. He's there cos the rest have issues. We need a proper 9.
