    Proportional representation.

The reason so many are disaffected is because, in GE anyway, their vote doesn’t count. I’ve not been able to vote for my preferred party for decades because they would have no chance of getting in.

If everyone knew their vote counted that would surely help

Does it? I don't know the answer, but France has PR and their turn outs are lower than the UK. I think trust in politicians and believing that the politicians can make a change, rather than same old same old, makes a difference in turn out. I'm for PR, but not sure if it will help voters feel more engaged.

    Probably.
Under which Reform would now have close to 100 seats in the HoC. And that's from a near standing start. :emoticon-0148-yes:

Need to get a grip of domestic infrastructure being owned by foreign equity funds. £40bn taken out in dividends from one of the water companies isnt it? Whilst sewage seeps into the system.

Wealth tax to stop those buying up assets and stripping the middle class and making it harder for people at the bottom who do work their arses off to have a way out.

Of course immigration is an issue that needs to be addressed in its own way too. On all fronts, was having a read of an ONS report yesterday, it was really interesting actually the breakdown of it all.

Exactly what’s wrong with politics in this country.

People may have the right policies in their head but they become insufferable when it turns into stupid nicknames and parroted slogans.

I hate tribal party politics from all spheres. (Yes, including parties I have voted for). It’s pointless and stops real progress.

    I could be wrong
Maybe it would just engage me
Mind you I’d also make it mandatory which I do t think you should do with PR

Assuming people voted the same way, but if they did yes.
I’d also make it mandatory to vote too.

Be careful of too much opposition, it's what happened in some east European countries after the iron curtain fell. In simplistic terms 5 opposition parties get 10% each and one usually the nationalist or former commie gets 50% ending up with a democratic dictatorship and nothing changing.
At least with the two party system and fixed terms there is a chance to change. Can a new party grow enough to challenge the big two or will we end up with a fractured opposition leaving one party in power unopposed.

    Agreed.
But ..... that doesn't answer the question ........ "The 2 party system definitely needs interrupting. Rebranded tories certainly aren’t the answer (not directed at you chazz)" ...... "A glimpse of common ground? So what IS the answer iyo?"

Make voting easier, we trust banks with our money online and everyother area of our life, why not electronic voting?
Also on the voting slip in person / postal / electric - the final option would be None of The Above (vote NOTA)
Mandatory would involve 'policing' those that did not, why, legal challenges and more money potentially wasted

It sounds daft when you imagine the current MPs getting them but we also need to make cabinet positions top of the industry jobs. Things people are working towards to aspire to become. MPs in my lifetime have almost used their roles to further their prospects outside of politics.

I think it is remiss. The "they're all the same" narrative makes it easier for bad politicians to get elected by downplaying the difference between the good and bad ones. There are good ones and we should give them credit and elect them.

The comment about ST ‘abusing’ children as a teacher because he’s left-wing was just repugnant and it was a half-decent thread up to that point.

It's like you channelled every angry uncle on Facebook I ever encountered and just let the righteous screeching of TalkRadio flow through you.

Half of those problems are invented, the others are just not issues.

As for the "indoctrination" side of your point, it might interest you to know that 3 and 4 year olds don't really find an interest in politics, they tend to enjoy painting, playing outside and doing phonics. So apologies if you're frequently bumping into opinionated 4 year olds but that's not on me chuck.

I will say I do teach in one of the most underprivileged areas of Hull and most of the things you said really aren't what parents are complaining about.

Indoctrinating children is abuse - they should be given balanced educations so they can decide for themselves - maybe you think they should only be told only a blinkered biased narrative - I don't
