They delivered exactly what was always going to happen. True enough, that's very different from what the Tories and Nigel Farage *said* was going to happen, but nevertheless, they delivered what Brexit was.

You'll never, ever stop illegal migration to this country or any other one while you have conflicts and wars raging in the Middle East. Reform certainly won't do it; they're populists, they don't actually have any semblance of political ideology outside of what makes people feel good/angry. But also, conspiratorial as it may sound, if they actually did "fix it" (which wouldn't really change much at all in terms of your average UK citizen's standard of living), they wouldn't have anything to blame everything else on. Suppose LGBTQ people might be the next ones down on the list? Socialists? The poor? Dunno, Trump's working his way down it pretty quick and that's going...*checks notes*...****. Definitely want to be copying that model, for sure.

 

Best political point I heard yesterday by some politico was in loose terms ‘ if the country properly prospers and has a decent solid economy’ all the peripheral but currently topical issues disappear into the background ‘ ie if the vast majority are ‘happier’ then a calmness pervades .
On a tech front I wonder if the political parties ever realised the fundamental impact of the web and phones would have by giving every one a say , an influence , a voice of opinion that in theory could be heard from Lands End to John o Groats . No longer did those who read a choice of say 5 nationals get ‘old news’ and not know who else might feel the same way around the country - there were just ‘two tribes’ now there could be many or new ones any time .
I think labour and the Tories are doomed if Reform get their act together and actually do what the public want and not the City .
The City however are the worry because they pull the strings and I know from experience at the end of the day the owner will always win and have his way , however moral and honest I’ve been , it didn’t matter a jot.

 

oh dear, did the bad man win - whether you can cope with it or not we've moved on from the politics of the seventies and the 'up the workers' nonsense - we we're the fastest growing economy in the G7 until Two Tier Tool took over and ****ed it up - we had interest rates back at 2% until Two Tier Tool ****ed it up, we had started to sort out immigration and had a deterrent until Two Tier Tool ****ed it up - so rather than complain about the bad man look at the present incumbents and why they are so unpopular - total lack of experience at managing business / the economy, non stop lies about smashing gangs, £22 billion non existent black holes, then giving public sector above inflation pay rises, - don't know what a woman is and failure to protect women, attacks on pensioners and the disabled, accepting gifts / bribes / concert tickets / executive boxes, the list goes on and on - spunking taxpayers money on airmiles, promising £300 reductions on energy bills, they've actually gone up - incomprehensible policy on net zero, one minute we don't need fossil fuels, then we do, then they don't want to rely on imported fossil fuels then they refuse to give licences in the north sea so we have to import them - then they promise change and start claiming we want it faster - but all the change they've done so far has made everything a lot worse and finally all this crap about fully funded, fully costed - that's the biggest lie of all - and then you wonder why people have had enough and look for something better - the sad bit is people with your views have infiltrated the teaching profession and are abusing kids and indoctrinating them with left wing **** and producing a generation of imbeciles who even think terrorists are the good guys in the middle east and the victims are the bad guys - yes, people have had enough and that's exactly why Two Tier Tool was given a bloody nose

Even as much of what you say may be true we have managed to get to 16 pages without anyone getting too personal (I think) from what started as a local story it's grown to cover regional and national politics, brexit, develution and autonomy, European Union and even a bit of the USA without any major squabbles no need to start now.

I think his appearance in an age where people are judged on these things goes against him. I have heard a lot of people say how intelligent he is. A lot of stuf I have read him come out with comes across well.

If conflicts in the Middle East are such a driving force for illegal immigration why are so many of the ones arriving from countries like Vietnam. where a regular poster on here lived happily and in safety for years or Albania? Most arriving are young men. They are economic migrants. When you see as many females, children and older people accompanying them then they will be ones fleeing war and persecution,

 

Also it’s easier to grow an economy you’ve absolutely ****ed for 14 years quicker than it is a thriving one.

Was an interesting thread whilst it lasted. I’m surprised it lasted this long being relatively cordial.

 

How would you describe the political landscape of this country since Boris was chased out of office then? Hardly stable is it? New Government nine months into power and the country has already turned against them? Brexit was about gaining control of our borders and Sovereignty, and the Leave campaign won, but sadly the Remainers wouldn't and haven't accepted the result of the democratic vote. So who is it who is trying to rewrite history?

 

I think the issue is that you and a couple of others on here are just so far out of touch with what a groundswell of the general public believe and feel.

Of course Brexit hasn't been delivered in the way most of the people voting for it wanted, nor the way it could have been. Of course illegal immigration could be halted (or, to be technically correct, at least kept to minimal levels, there will always be a trickle obviously); not that the focus should be kept putting back near enough soley on this one topic, as important and scandalous as it is.

The support for Reform (real change) is no longer a small minority that the lazy stereotypical insults of denial and dismissal can be thrown at. It's across ages, sexes, intellect, class, backgrounds, and it's for FAR more reason than just the lazily trotted out lines previously used.

That groundswell is rapidly increasing and hopefully continues until the rotten 2 party politics and the 'establishment' of recent decades is replaced and overhauled. What I suspect we'll now see is Starmer and Badenoch (or whoever replaces her) shift their positions and 'principles' in a bid to simply survive. That might not be a bad thing if it changes things in this country toward what Reform (read 'growing swathes of the general public') want to see happen, but it isn't really the right answer as, like with Brexit, with many of them like Starmer it's not what they really want.

This week could well prove to be a turning point for Reform, and a tipping point in politics generally, as the public see that Reform have moved from being what some saw as a pesky nuisance to being a proper, serious alternative that can actually replace what we've suffered. As the saying goes, you need to 'wake up and smell the coffee' of why there's this groundswell of support. Don't just dismiss it, but understand it and accept it's for real; hopefully it now becomes a tidal wave.
