I am 99% sure that is illegal. You have no legal obligation to claim sanctuary in the first safe country you find. Declining birth rates are normal in successful nations - and immigration helps balance that out.

The whole thing is hyperbole and stupidity.

Yeah, I'm not sure on the legality of that one. I can certainly see the argument for rejection of asylum because whatever their reason would clearly not apply to France. I also don't know the consequence if reform did win and decide to to it anyway - nothing would shock me anymore.

Immigration can indeed balance it out, although with 85% of channel migrants being males, I don't think that applies here. I think that's why it is important to fix immigration. This country absolutely needs immigration, walking through any NHS hospital and you'll see that pretty quickly. But just allowing in anyone and everyone is clearly ridden with issues, notably costs and crime.

I don’t think anyone wants this situation. But we did cause it. I don’t think we can play down what an awful mess the USA - with our help - has made of that region of the world. And with cutting foreign aid, it will just get worse.

The only saving grace for Labour is that this is happening now with 4 years notice.

This gives them time to try and figure out a solution.

I have very little faith they will, but its better than the tables turning a year out with nothing you can do to forestall the momentum.

Also with Reform now running a number of councils it gives a reasonable time for them to form a track record of failure ...(or success). Although my faith in the ability of the public at large to hold them accountable and not just blame who they tell them to is lacking.

It’s a night of uncontained joy for Nigel Farage as he realises he can no longer count the number of Reform MPs on one hand.

If people are concerned about FPTP not being truly representational then they should be getting behind the Reform Party who have promised to look into overseas voters. If they live abroad they have influence on issues that don't really affect them so perhaps it's undemocratic that they can vote. There would have to exceptions for people temporarily working overseas like the armed forces and embassy staff etc but in general a good idea I think. Far better for people who live here to have a say on what goes on here including immigrants who have made the UK their home.

Of course overseas voters are affected by issues in the UK. Investments, property, business, pensions, immigration, families in the UK and other concerns that obviously go over the little Englanders heads. Thankfully the fifteen year cut off rule has been removed and we emmigrants can continue to exercise our franchise.

I wish people would stop talking about stopping immigration. It is impossible and has happened for 100s of thousands of years. It is totally normal and acceptable. Modern transport has just made it easier to cover larger distances and the fact that capitalism has resulted in Western countties being more favourable.

We should not stop immigration but learn to manage it. There is nothing we can do to prevent it. Better to spend resources stopping war and acting against global warming. Those arguing against this are the people i worry about living in this country.

For those who are bothered about facts. Immigration costs us nearly 1% GDP. According to the OBR Brexit is currently costing us 4% GDP.

I am for stopping old people from voting.

Wondered if anyone had read John Lancaster's novel 'The wall' which too the idea of who is allowed to live un the UK to extremes ? Loved this book but it would probably get IOAG clutching her pearls. The book makes realise how unpleasant Farago is.
