If they aren't qualified, we the general public sure weren't to be given a referendum in the first place.

I know it's not the same thing but I loved the Lord Mayor's parade as a kid.

I'm sure one of the main reasons that lead to me joining the army was the awe the tubby TA lads inspired in me marching through the city centre.

    That's not even a joke it's 100% true <laugh>

Have they kept coming in ever greater numbers? The figures don't seem to support that.

Obviously Farage says so, because it's in his interest to constantly keep stoking the fire on that, but I suspect most people repeating it have no idea of the actual numbers.

Isn’t Luke Campbell going to get out there on an inflatable kayak and knock all the small boats out?

Which of the non-Reform candidates do people think will be most popular?

As I said, I've gone for Mike Ross because on balance I think he's the most likely to compete with Reform. But Margaret Pinder knocked on my door a few weeks ago and was very keen to convince that she actually had the best chance. The poll she showed me was very much the outlier when I looked at others, but that was clearly her angle. Lib Dems had a totally different approach, they've gone for their usual "Tories can't win here" line but added Reform to it, which obviously isn't true.

The annoying thing is, I'd be happy with either of them, and I think it'd have been in our best interests for one of them to step aside for the other really. I suppose it's never going to happen in our party political system, but it just means they'll probably both get nowhere and Reform will win.

They are coming in numbers because it’s probably the mildest calmest early year to Spring for a long time - the numbers increase , had it been stormy and windy etc the numbers would be less . The main problem appears to be where they go when here , who they actually are how much more we pay to support them and for how long . Do they behave ? And once ‘established’ does that give free rein to bring extended family ?

I don't know if the referendum was the issue. The fact that several senior politicians, who were spouting off opinions for and against, didn't know the volume/value of trade across the English channel, the nature of the political relationship between NI, Ireland and the EU or have the ability to negotiate with EU and international (Russian) politicians in public was an embarrassment to their positions.

    Good post .
It took 30 seconds for the media to launch it's vitriol after last year's election .
You don't turn an oil tanker around in 2 minutes
Please feel free to vote Farage if you will but consider the consequences if they ever get in just looking at their policies on the NHS .
Americans are completely enslaved to their companies private health provision which effectively takes away the ability for Companies to provide any kind of holiday entitlement .
Be very careful what you wish for .

    29,000 in 2023
    46,000 in 2022.
Can't find the final 2024 figure but it was up on 2023 in the first half of the year.

It's not ever greater numbers, but certain people want you to believe it is, and it's blown up as headline news everywhere as if it's the most important issue of our time. That and what the prime minister defines a woman as.

I'm seeing this point of view a lot this week with The Hull Story leading the call for tactical voting to stop Reform. This only underlines the closeness of the centre right/centre left parties in power, the legacy parties who never bring change, it is our democratic right to protest vote. Just wish Michelle Dewberry had stood instead of Luke, she would have made a damn good Mayor.

The Hull Story ( Post) leading the call for tactical voting to stop Reform was written by a Liberal. I've read similar stuff from him in the past when he was calling for tactical voting to stop Labour in Hull.
    Agree about Michelle.
