A beautiful old tree destroyed... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce8g6lj8343o Criminal damage? Apparently not. This one particular act of vandalism pales when compared to the ancient forests chopped down for the white elephant high speed rail, which got far less publicity.
Huge parts of Spain and Portugal lost all power at about Midday today. Nobody knows why. That doesn't sound very plausible six hours later. Blimey.

I hear some European Governments have been advising their people to lay in a few day's supply of tinned food, some torches / lamps and a battery or clockwork FM radio - as radio may remain the only way of communicating if television & mobile networks go down in a power cut. A sad sign of the times but good advice. I got myself some LED torches & a battery radio (with SW bands) just before the first lockdown in 2020. And it never hurts to have a dozen tins of food in the cupboard. Heating their contents might be an issue, unless the gas stays on. PS: What I did not get was 300 bog rolls and a hundred tins of baked beans. Everyone else best me to it
