How do they commit so many fouls while having the most possession?

Here’s something that will blow your tiny little mind, Celtic won 5-0 at the weekend and had 75% possession, yet still managed 8 fouls to Dundee Utd’s 5, and no bookings of course.

How were these fouls committed, cynical fouls to prevent a goal or pressing in the opponents half?

 

Some people seem to forget that PERSISTENT fouling results in a yellow card which supports the FACT hat fouls aren't always bookable offences

Celtic - 51 fouls (2 bookings)
Opponents - 49 fouls (8 bookings)

The stats above of Celtics last 5 league games, so in those games Celtic are running to an average of 25.5 fouls per card

Celtics opponents being reffed to a different standard though with an average of 6.125 fouls per card

I suspect Alan Morrison and his ref pal will be studying all this as we speak, look forward to their findings and if we have any patterns of assistance at play here.

No but at what point do we start thinking the numbers are just a bit too skewed? 25.5 fouls per card over a 5 game period? Thats a ridiculous number

I’d have to look into the fouls awarded , the fouls that resulted in cards etc * over a full season
