I also think they have to have been approached by someone as none of the timings make sense. Why bother hiring Spors and changing manager and directors if you are just going to leave a few months later? Even if they are just testing the water as some are indicating it makes no sense. I think an interested party has come forward and they are just posturing about a price
The £400m left Everton with “greatly reduced debts” apparently so a chunk of it went to that. Have to factor it into the purchase price though. If we were sold for £125m then I’d expect our debt to just roll over to the new owner
It's not ridiculously cheap if all the money that they've "put" into the club is loans and other shady business ****wittery. Any money that's been put into this club sure as **** hasn't been from their own pocket. As I've always said these lot couldn't give 2 ****s.
From when Solak appointed himself chairman three months ago: "I feel completely at home here and I'm as passionate as ever to make this successful, I will do everything possible. That's why I decided to assume the chairmanship, I show everybody that I'm going nowhere and will do everything to make it work." Think this rumour is just idle chat in a slow period, tbh
I think with the importance of the upcoming summer, new manager etc, the club will need to put out a statement soon?
As I’ve said all along all I care about with an owner is how much they spend. Gao kept us up but on the decline year after year due to no spend. The absolute ceiling with him was finishing bottom half in the PL every year. The floor was much higher as they were terrified of relegation because of the financial impact so did all they could to just keep us up. If we had gone down it sounds like we would’ve been royally ****ed. SR ceiling is higher (maybe somewhere around Europa League places if every comes together for a season) but, as we’ve seen, they weren’t afraid to take risks which could (and did) lead to relegation. They weren’t as bothered by it as Gao would’ve been as they had the financials to get us back up, whether that be by selling players who they bought for large sums or Solak putting in a wedge. So the floor is lower as well as we are far more likely to get relegated than under Gao due to these risks. personally I don’t want to be a bottom half PL team with not much chance of progressing with an owner who sells to buy every year, that is boring as **** for what is ultimately meant to be something we enjoy. I’d much rather have an owner who will splash the cash and give some sort of hope that we could be fighting it out in the top half, knowing that the risks being taken could also see us drop of out of the league. If we do drop out we should be in a good spot to come straight back due to the owners investment and we can try again. If we are to be sold, if it’s someone with money to throw in and fancies pouring in a load to try and make us a solid PL side again, then great. If it’s someone taking us on just because we look cheap/fancy running a club but not got much money for a club owner then I’d rather stick with SR.
If these rumours gather pace and we hear nothing from the club, I am taking that as confirmation there is at least some element of truth behind them.
For me, the owner of the club isn't the issue, it's the turkeys that he's had running it. They had good footballing pedigrees on paper, but haven't worked out. If he can get someone decent running the club then it could be a great success. He's always backed the club with good investment. The thought of a sale sends shivers down my spine. The chances of us landing on our feet with an amazing new owner, who would invest to the same level are slim. Better the devil you know, than a Sisu you don't, in my book!
We have been in slow decline since NC was removed and the ownership thought a failed ice hockey coach was a good replacement... Koeman gave us a temporary stay of execution and Ralph did his best, but for me, the decline started with NC's departure - like him or loath him.
I agree with this. Solak has not been tight with the purse strings, just in-experienced in the getting the right people to manage the club. He trusted his investment with people that let him down He's since actively changed things in an effort to protect his investment and get things going in the right direction. A good business person learns from their mistakes and grows. You don't become the second* richest person in your native country by being an idiot! *credit wikipedia
NC had the enviable job of getting a relative 'sleeping giant' back on its feet, with a bigger budget than most of the competition. An excellent managerial recruitment with Poch, but NC's time with us in the Prem was really too short to be holding him up in such high regard. No doubt he would have made bad decisions sooner or later because of the ruthless nature of the Prem. If SR had taken over a League One club, they would have quickly earned success at that level.
At first glance I agree but it could be any number of reasons. There could be some sort of personal issue we don't know about. Or perhaps he was originally told by Kraft and Ankersen that running a football club would be fairly easy and Spors has recently sat him down and told him they were very wrong, our squad is bloated and full of players not good enough for the Premier League and if he wants us to be a Premier League club again he'll need to accept sizeable transfer losses on a lot of players just to get them out of the door and then spend a load more money buying better players, all with no guarantee of success.
Presumably that purchase also includes the new £750m stadium. But football club valuations are weird. Similar to what you said before, our squad of players is apparently worth more than the club that owns them as well as a stadium, training ground, merchandise store etc
I know it’s fashionable to hate on SR, but this would be rubbish news, timing-wise. I can’t make it make sense from a business perspective either, so…
Isn't that the problem though? Even if we got that owner, we are restricted by PSR. The way SR have tried to do it is to increase the clubs turnover. I have limited knowledge of PSR but isn't it the case that if the owner wanted to inject **** loads of cash, the restrictions would not allow it?
