Or welcome the lads to the SOL as we were about to lift the Premiership? Liverpool manager said they knew they were going to win it as they approached Anfield. I know this is hypothetical, but are we entrenched in our pre-match rituals of going to the pub, turn up on time for kick-off, then expect an atmosphere. Get hacked off when they don't entertain us, and, some leave early... I know I've had a drink, but the Liverpool managers words hit home. Are we as good as supporters as we believe we are?
Our fans travel around the country supporting the team without question in ridiculous numbers and we consistently have the highest attendance in the league, despite playing some god awful football at times and also being in statistically an area of high poverty. Yes we are as good as we believe are.
In terms of numbers we are some of the best around. In terms of atmosphere I think we're one of the worst. But I said my piece on that on a different thread last night. I'd love for us to do something like that but I just can't see it.
I've got a list of reasons. SoL is poorly designed for atmosphere. Away fans upstairs. Family zone right next to the 'singing end'. Average age of season ticket holders seems to be getting higher, not saying older people can't create atmosphere but in general atmosphere is created by the youth. This is down to ticket prices. If you try and chant in any section that isn't the Roker End you get looked at like you've just committed a crime. Fans reluctance to accept things that could improve the atmosphere. Things like drums, even the banners/flags have some people up in arms. The laws surrounding fans really don't help. Why can't I have a pint watching the game? I can at rugby, cricket and other sports. Why am I getting searched at Plymouth at home? There's no reason for fans to get to the SoL early or stay after. There's so much more as well. Fan culture in England is dogshit and that's a fan problem and a club problem.
We won't get there till about 6.30. Missing the pub to go straight to the ground and soak up the atmosphere
Drums do not generate atmosphere it kills it...anybody taking one to a game should have them firmly shoved up their a**e
Finish work at half 5 by the time I drive to the metro station and get in it’ll be looking like 7pm ish might have to quickly chin a pint then get to the ground, hindsight I should have took a half day
