Morning. Just been for a McDonald’s breakfast. I see the BBC are hosting a 4hr special for this pope guys funeral. The biggest ***** ring in the world. No surprises really. This is a Protestant country, we wouldn’t do this if the leader of any other religion died so not sure why these are getting so much coverage.
You are correct in that we wouldn't do this for any other religious figure ... which is exactly why there is so much coverage - not just here but throughout the world ...
Eldest daughter's boyfriend is running the London Marathon tomorrow so she's dropping off her mad Spaniel with us around lunchtime today for an overnight stay and staying in London herself - there goes my Sunday lie in - I'll have walked fookin miles by the time she comes to pick him up tomorrow evening ... that said, he's a lovely dog - just a bit bonkers ...
It’s ridiculous. The Pope means nothing to the majority of this country. It’s just some random guys funeral, it’s morbid.
Suspect the viewing figures will be huge - and that's your answer ... and it's not random - there is only one Pope ...
I've got the Pope ceremony on, but with volume down really low. Just out of curiosity more than anything, the weather in Rome is pretty cool by their standards this morning, which is probably a good job with so many people standing out in full sun. Ain't seen no snipers on the roof top yet, protect ears at all cost.
It's certainly a spectacle - just seen the Eastern church leaders come on - Byzantine - with a liturgy in Greek ... Bit like Game of Thrones ...
They are driving through the streets of Rome now, in the pope mobil with him in his box on the back. please log in to view this image
When does the new guy selected? I’ve got a tenna on Turkson after a tip from our resident catholic @Libby
It took a while to find some sort of date timeline, as no one was being specific, but this was the best I could find... The conclave will gather to select the new pope 15 to 20 days after the death of Pope Francis. In accordance with the rule, the conclave is expected to gather between May 6 and May 11. So then a day or two voting, if they can get two thirds in agreement....otherwise if just goes on until they do.
I had to check the age limit for the Pope this morning, because looking at the ages of some of them in attendance, this ceremony could become a yearly event lol Apparently you have to be under 80 to be elected. It didn't seem that long ago the dead one was elected, but I think he had been in for 13 years, so Saf should get a couple more in, for some of us older ones another one maybe.
