United is a retirement home for the stars, that’s what they can attract. Big name on the shirt, humongous pay day to the player and nothing to show for it. The very best at their peak right now are not entertaining Man Utd
I actually agree. Ok not every player but United are still way more of a pull than Forest spurs villa even Chelsea. Yes they’ve been **** but 1, you’ll still be paid very well therefor immediately pull. But also players like Cunha will think if they can get United back up and challenging then could make themselves a hero there. Chance to be the player to help turn around a club in despair.
I think obviously exaggerated by saying every player but most players will still. you say worlds best players but let’s be real, can we attract the worlds best? Probably not, I think there’s probably only 3/4 clubs that can and that’s partly to do with statue (Barca / Madrid / Bayern ) and partly due to finances (psg and city). The worlds best rarely move as they play for those best clubs already. United don’t need or want to attract the world’s best, they should be doing what we did 6/7 years ago, target those 23/34 year olds who need to step up. No one had Salah alisson mane Fabinho as the worlds best but you buy very good players and develop them into worlds best. United might not be able to quite compete at that tier with us and Arsenal at the moment unless throw silly money, but they will still be more of a pull than 75% of teams in the prem and 90% of teams in spain Italy Germany Netherlands France.
First highlight: Nobody's really talking about "most players" here, but top players. Second highlight: It goes without saying that ManU are a bigger draw than most clubs in other leagues, but again, we're not talking about them so I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. The point I was making is that the best players of any era are going to want to play at the best performing clubs of that era. Utd still carry the rep from the Fergie years, but it won't last forever. Remember that up and coming players are teenagers, and they tend to idolise the top clubs from their childhood, so if Utd don't start being relevant again within a few years youngsters will only see an average team and the best amongst them will have loftier ambitions. My original statement, which I stand by, was that Amorim's claim that every player wants to play for Utd is presumptuous even now, and it can only get worse unless and until he makes them serious competitors again.
In any case, I can't see the top sides signing Cunha unless they get desperate and are beaten off/ put off their main targets. Slot and Arteta in particular would see him as too much of a gamble. Utd are in a position where they dont have much to lose gambling on him
I think Diego clarified that bit, tbf. But yeah, they're not even in our position now of @ 2003, it's closer to the end of 2010 and the H&G turmoil, Hodgson, etc. Remember though, that's just before we got Suarez and things began to change. Or, perhaps, it's more like the summer of 2015 in the last days of Rogers (who I'll always say was ****ed over royally by FSG, but at least that led to Klopp).
I'd love him at Anfield - he's another Suarez-type in terms of being a powder keg. And thinking they'll gamble with nothing to lose is how United have got where they are - always worth taking a gamble on a player or two every few seasons (we did with Salah and Chiesa, with different results so far), but when you're doing it three or four times in every summer window, and often in the Jan window to boot... well, that's when the FFP monster comes for you - or, in the case of Chelsea, it doesn't.
Funny clip going round of Danny Wilson talking about how every year he gets mentioned in post about lfc worst ever summer window when was signed alongside Cole and jovanavic - he sees the funny side of it.
Wrexham promoted up to the champ today. Interesting see how they do next year. Their finances and turnover just dwarf most clubs in league one and two but in champ you’re coming across teams with much greater power.
They will have to attract more fans in, finish that stand that Buckingham shafted them about and sign some good players.
The aim shpuld never be to sign the worlds best players. The aim should be to sign players who will become the world's best by playing for you We got van dijk for a fortune but all his career he was dogged with accusations of bad attitude. Stupid ****s. We got salah who was famously called a Chelsea reject. We got alisson for a lot of money but everyone was focused on oblak and others and nobody came in for him off roma Obviously Robertson wasn't world best but he might have been top 10 at one point and he was a bargain. Just needed the chance and work to be a different type of player. We got mane who was rejected by utd and nobody really came in. Got him cheap. Even now we have players like gravenberch who bayern didn't want to sell but didn't really see as good enough for them. 40mil bargain. Macallister is too slow but he is a worker and can pass but is just desperate to play play play. Bargain. But contrast utd have a litany of disasters they have paid huge money for. It's a long time since the likes of vidic, evra and the like were seem as bargains. Hopefully lfc can make more buys thst look like bargains after the fact. 75mil for 10 years of vvd. Paid for by barca. Best decision ever. 66mil for alisson paid for by cl finalist campaign. Second best decision ever. 34 mil for salah. What an absolute bargain. What an impact. Every trophy we have won has had them front and centre.
"We got mane who was rejected by utd and nobody really came in. Got him cheap." No, Mane rejected them. He had a buyout clause at Soton that we both met, but he chose us. True dat. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/spo...dio-mane-liverpool-manchester-united-30700839
Oh yeah, but it can only take it so far. The streaming money has paid to take a team from nonleague to the championship. But you don't need a big budget in league 1. You do in the championship. They will need 60mil and go buy a team They simply cannot do it without starting to getting back to the fundamentals of football. Matchday. They have 12k ground. Bournemouth level right? They claim to want a 55k stadium. There's 40 odd thousand people in wrexham and 130k around it. Best of luck going over 25k in that ground Tv money. This will come with success. Thry have to compete with clubs with parachute payments. That will not be easy. Commercial. They are covered here and probably make more than everton ffs. Is there one single player in that team that would play even top half of championship
They looked at him the summer before and bottled it. If a club does that would you go there the year after? That's what I mean.
