The history don't end there, if you continue pass the statue, heading away from the high st, towards the car park, but go pass them and walk down to the main road, there's a pub called The Three Daws - assuming it is still there, I assume it is... https://www.threedaws.co.uk/ @PISKIE was involved in this bit somehow... The pub called "The Three Daws" in Gravesend, originally named "The Three Cornish Choughs". It was likely named after the Cornish Chough, a bird related to jackdaws, which might have been mistaken for a jackdaw at some point, leading to the name "daws". The "Three Cornish Choughs" were also associated with Saint Thomas Becket and Canterbury, where they appear in the city's arms. In 1582, the innkeeper was Ralph Wellett. It seems to have been associated with pilgrims crossing the river on their way to the shrine of St. Thomas, the three Cornish Choughs appearing in the arms of Canterbury City. A reference to it as the Three Daws appears in the Gravesend Register of 1667. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
This made me laugh. I guess the competitive spirit never leaves you. Olympic legend Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce showed no mercy as she sprinted to victory at her son’s school sports day in the parents’ race. https://metro.co.uk/2025/04/17/shel...-ruins-parents-sons-sports-day-race-22925493/
All went really well, message I got was, 'that went as well as we could possibly have hoped' vision back this morning but blurred, been told do nothing for 2 weeks, then ease my way back into normality, no driving for 4-6 weeks until go back for a follow up. Limited screen time, so I'm ****ing off again for now.
my 15 yr old Polo was in for its MOT this morning . Phone call couple of hours later saying the car was ready and had passed it's MOT "but we did have to do some work to get it through as the wiper blades needed replacing" phew
Pleased to read all that mate. Great to have you back and just take your time Gessa. At least it will all be good in time for the Leeds return.
Still there. Probably the most photographed pub in Gravesend. Not many days go by when it’s not featured on local social media. Tends to be one of the music venues I regularly go to and I’m told the food is good in the restaurant, although not tried that.
I ate there once but too long ago to remember, but it all seemed very nice. Precovid 2019 I liked Gravesend High St, dread to think what it's like now, died like all the rest - well except for Rochester.
Gravesend held the record for the most pubs in a town years ago. I don’t go there much now but the last time I went for a night out to see a band, it was noticeable how many pubs are no longer there. Supposed to be going to a 60th later tonight at a pub called the Jolly Drayman.
Don't know that pub, googled it and it looks like it's not far from the Temple. Looks like the pub has a big courtyard for bands and weather is forecast good for tonight, so enjoy.
