I'm going for Truro. Only because any team that has to play it's home games 195 miles away (as they did last season) deserves some reward. C'mon the Tinners!
Last season, Truro were having their home ground renovated so were going to play home games at Plymouth Parkway FC (55 miles) but bad weather led to regular postponements and the arrangement was cut short. They then made a new deal with Taunton Town (125 miles) but more pitch issues led to them finishing the season at Gloucester City (195 miles). I think I read at the time that some of their away games were closer than than the home ones, but I may have dreamt that up. Maybe it was this quote from the then manager Paul Wotton that made me think that. "You're going to a home game and the away team are getting there quicker than you."
Massive win for Luton earlier. Championship relegation battle…actually has teams battling for survival. How novel. Maybe we should try it.
Wrexham could gain promotion to the Championship today with a win at home against Charlton at 17:30pm KO. A draw will mean that Wycombe can only equal their points and are one goal worse off.
Looks like (as it stands) Cardiff & Plymouth are dropping out of the championship, so 2 to cross off the list.
Truro on the verge of winning their league by one goal ... them and Torquay are both on level points as it stands, with Truro pipping them by 1 goal. Could all change yet ...
Christ the final day of the Championship season will be dramatic down at the bottom end. Cardiff are down and Plymouth all but down but the last spot could be any of 5 teams.
It seems crazy that Preston are in the mix. Eight games ago they were 14th and eight points clear of relegation. And if you go back even further, they were looking at the play-off places in February - they moved into the 40 points back in match 31. But their form since then has been awful. They better hope that either Bristol City secure a top six finish on Monday (unlikely) or Pompey are not already on the bench when they play Hull, because otherwise I can see Preston being the side who go. I wouldn't be shocked if Derby-Stoke is the dullest of 0-0 draws. That would definitely be enough for Stoke and likely to be enough for Derby.
Meh, local derby compared to the trip to Carlisle they'll have to do! Edit: although Google maps has Gateshead as the longer journey, learn something new every day ...
