But we won't be in the PL next season? I totally agree with you that Armstrong and others aren't good enough to make the step up the PL. But that is completely irrelevant for next season. If we get promoted next season, then in summer 2026 we can think about moving on Armstrong and others. But to move him on this summer would be a dreadful decision. We've found it hard to replace Ings with a PL quality striker when we've been in the PL. We're hardly likely to acquire a PL quality striker when down in the Championship.
Ah, the Russell Martin effect. I'm not going to judge any player on the way they performed under Martin. Because there's plenty of evidence to suggest he didn't get the best out of players. Let's see; Shea Charles - Looked totally lost playing Russball; now one of the best midfielders in the Championship David Brooks - Nothing special for us; now playing in one of the Prem's best attacking teams Joe Rothwell - Fairly bland under Russ; has been ever-present this season for top of the table Leeds. Charly Alcaraz - Crap for Russ; now playing regularly for Everton Ugochukwu - looked clueless under RM; has looked twice the player since Sulemana - Totally crap under RM. Still kind of crap, but has at least shown moments of what he can do Ronnie Edwards - Didn't even get a chance; apparently a revelation for QPR I'm sure there are others, but you get my point.
Whilst I don’t disagree with your Martin point in general, the big difference is Armstrong played 100(?) PL games not under Russell Martin and was **** then aswell. For me it’s quite simple. He relies massively on his pace and he is quick at Championship level, so gets chances because of it. He isn’t quick at PL level so barely gets any chances. I’d still keep him next year if he wants to stay (I have my doubts about that and think he’ll want out), but I wouldn’t want to be giving him any more chances at PL level with us
I have been resigned to losing Tyler this summer, but it really does make a lot of sense for all parties for him to stay. He’s not good enough for the premier league yet and highly unlikely to offer much to a PL side next season, which is probably why we’re hearing a lot of noise from German clubs. As always it come down to money, but Jack Clarke, Archie Gray & Liam Delap all went for decent sums without any PL experience and far from extraordinary Championship numbers behind them. Unless a club does offer over £40m maybe even £50m, I really don’t think it’s worth selling.
How have our on-loan players performed? They will potentially be playing for us next season. Adam Armstrong Gavin Bazunu Shea Charles Sam Edozie Ben Brereton Diaz Ronnie Edwards
Adam Armstrong - not great, 3 goals in 14 games Gavin Bazunu - been injured, mixed bag in 8 games played Shea Charles - Excellent, nominated for Championship young player of the season Sam Edozie - 2 goals in 20 games, not sure how he's actually performed Ben Brereton Diaz - OK, 4 goals and 3 assists in 17 games Ronnie Edwards - Excellent, QPR fans have been raving about him
I think only Charles and Edwards have been big successes. BBD seems to play a lot, but hasn't exactly been prolific. Armstrong has played quite a lot and hasn't hit the goalscoring form he hit for us last season either. Bazunu and Edozie have had injuries disrupt their loans and think they have been a bit of a mixed bag in terms of performances when they've played. I'm sure others have been following more closely than my occasional cursory check ins.
Okay then, who would take Vardy. Danny sure I wouldn't a goals related performance pay. Still think he would grab 15 to 20 goals on a good champ team
Not a chance on earth Vardy coming to us. Hes either going Saudi, USA, Wrexham or back to Fleetwood for a ‘homecoming’ imo. We don’t want a 38 year old striker about to retire that wants a final pay packet either. We need someone young who will tear up Champ & has potential to make it in Prem
