Another day with a lot of racing. I am interested to see how the racing goes at Epsom, we have a few course regulars on show, will they continue the old "Horses for Courses" paradigm?

First thing I always look for on an Epsom card.

I'm glad to see the Blue Riband Trial attracting a nice field of 7 with a number of top yards represented. I always thought this race was overlooked in recent years, especially as the most common excuse used for Derby flops is "he didn't handle the track".

In the Great Metropolitan Handicap at Epsom (3.20) there are two C&D winners in the field and, ironically, both are trained by Gary and Josh Moore. Top weight Miller Spirit won twice at Epsom last September (off marks of 79 and 82) before bringing up the hat-trick at Newbury off 90. Up another 7lbs, he ran creditably in 6th in the November handicap before s couple of runs (won, 2nd) over hurdles at Lingfield late last year. He goes again off 97 today and a lot will depend on how ready he is after the 125 day break. Stablemate Small Fry also shot up the weights after a successful autumn. His C&D victory came in September off a mark of 65 and he followed up at Chester before a couple of second placed efforts saw him put up to his current mark of 80 (apprentice Ashlew Lewis - 2 wins from 12 rides in 2025 - takes off 7lbs). Small Fry also had a couple of runs over hurdles towards the end of 2024, albeit in pretty tasty juvenile company, and he looks to have scope for improvement back on the flat. The Moores also saddle a third dual purpose runner in Kotari - what price a 1-2-3?
