Didn't want to leave the premier league, just not offered a contract, could offer him £140,000 a week which is £7 million a year, against what it would cost to buy a player,it's cheap.
I agree with you that it would be a great signing, but I just don't think Leeds can compete with the job offers he'll get - both financially and glamour wise. IMO, De Bruyne will either go to the Saudi league, MLS in the USA, or most likely, Serie A - with a team like Juventus, Milan, Roma, Inter or Napoli.
OK, further to previous posts: while I do not think we can get De Bruyne, how about if we sign Christian Eriksen ? Hear me out; most pundits expect THEM to release Eriksen at the end of his contract, I think he would be a great aquisition in the event that Bournemoth want too much for Rothwell. Thoughts ?
Maybe I’m not the best judge on this, because these days, I rarely watch football unless we’re playing. However if he’s fit, and available and can fit into whatever system DF chooses next year, £7-10m is a steal for that quality of player, even at that age. Training would be ramped up a notch, with someone of his undoubted quality around Thorpe Arch. Don’t see him as a likely journeyman, doubt his pride/ego would entertain that. Get him on a 2 yr contract, if we were to go down after yr 1, he’d piss the championship. I like it Chesh.
I don’t think he’d even entertain coming to us but he has had a lot of injuries over the past few seasons. I’m with Emu with regards buying players that have peaked and achieved everything in the game, as George Graham used to say, give me hungry young players on the way up.
Was Strachen "past it" when Wilkinson signed him or when he was part of the 1991-92 Div 1 championship team ?
Strachan was able to play back to back games, as was Pablo. De Bruyne has hardly played for the last two seasons. He's nearly as bad as Paddy. It would be a waste of funds which would be better spent on somebody who can actually help us.
