Just saw this on DE too, I know Libby posted a comment about finding out something regarding Tyler at the game on Sat. Would love to know!! No doubt we all expect him to go, but my gosh would he tear up the Championship next year & would it do him the world of good for his career…
He's only got to look at how it benefited the likes of Grealish, Watkins etc who all spent a season in the Championship
This is it. Nothing better for confidence and toughening up than Championship. If he spend a season & scores 15 goals to get us promoted then he goes back to Prem with bags of confidence
The only way he stays, is if he signs a new contract. No new contract, then the club will have to cash in this summer
My brother in law is a Man Utd season ticket holder and doesn't think the rumours have much legs. Dibling is seen as overpriced and not good enough for Old Traffold. I think most Man Utd fans would feel the same. I just think that Dibling will end up at somewhere like Spurs or West Ham where his flamboyance will be appreciated .
In most circumstances I agree that it isn't wise to let a high valued player get to the last year of their contract (which is what will happen if he's still here in a year). However, I think it is different with Dibling for two reasons. Firstly, a failure to get promoted next season would come at a big financial cost to us. And therefore, if keeping Dibling was to improve our promotion chances, then this is something which shouldn't be overlooked. Secondly, if Dibling is as talented as people think, he should rip up the Championship next year. And if he duly does that, I still think there would be a huge queue for his signature next summer. And that is a situation which could outweigh him only having one year left on his contract at that point, because a fight for his signature would inevitably pump his price up. However, I do think this talk is wholly hypothetical, because I'm convinced that we'll be selling him this summer. If we could manage to agree to a one-year loan back, I wouldn't mind knocking £5m or so off the asking price.
He’s still on barely anything (comparatively). Why I’m surprised he didn’t sign a new contract with a release clause or whatever (like Cunha did at Wolves), just for the wages which would have been a dramatic increase. Absolutely no chance he’d stay another year on an academy contract wage, and he’s clearly not signing a new contract here as it’s supposedly been on the table since the start of the season. So yeah, he’s definitely off this summer.
Armstrong on the bench again today for WBA. Going to be tough to move him on in the summer after giving him a new deal, and I don’t think he’s good enough for us, especially if we want to move forward, imho.
Why would we want to move him on in the summer? He'll be one of our most important players next season.
I think that he's guaranteed goals at Championship level and would step right into that right sided wide attacker (and left) without having to sign anyone when Dibling goes.
Because I think we could do better. He’s a championship forward at best and was part of our problem when trying to replace Ings etc. Can’t even get in the WBA team, so why would you think he’s good enough for a team, expecting to be challenging for automatic promotion next season. I think he needs a new challenge, just as much as we need to find a new striker or 2.
Because he literally proved last season that he's good enough. He finished the second top scorer in the Championship!
As did most of our current squad, and like Armstrong, have proved this season that they are not good enough to step up to the premier league. That has been our problem this season, not enough quality. We need to start replacing a number of those players this summer. But as I’ve previously said, I won’t be fussed who leaves this summer and we have to give Spors and the new manager the tools to build not just for today, but for tomorrow as well.
