Trouble is My eyes are so bad I tend to listen rather than read. Mind you just had a couple of cataract operations so may be able to do long reads again.
Just finished reading Claudia Pineiro's, "Thursday Night Widows." Althouth marketed as a crime novel with thr first chapter concluding with three bodies in a swimming pool , it is really an indictment of the Argentine government's mismanagement of the economy in the early 2000s and the way this impacted upon the standard of living. There is not so much a twist at the end of this novel but the reason for the three deaths becomes all too clear and disturbing at the end. Just felt that it pulled the carpet from under your feet as well as skewering the lives of the affluent who lived for conspicuous consumption. This is the third of her books that I have read. Easily as good as Iain McEwan.
Just started some Jessie Keane books. I actually met her on a cruise a few years ago. Any one else read any of hers?
Just started book 5 in the series by Chris Carter (6th if you include a short story about the detective’s first day in the homicide squad) and I have lost count of the “novel” and bloody methods of murder the author comes up with. The main protagonist is Robert Hunter, a detective with a very high IQ and a degree in criminal psychology who is like a modern day Sherlock Holmes in his thought processes. Thoroughly absorbing stories and highly recommended.
Has anyone read the “Rivers of London” series by Ben Aaronovitch? I’m on Book 4 and can’t put them down. Utterly compelling, funny, and brilliant writing.

Having finished the Slow Horses books, I'm now reading Mick Herron's other series, the Zoe Boehm series of books, that is being made into a TV show and coming out end of year with Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson. There's no Jackson Lamb there, of course, but he's such a good writer.
I love reading so would not consider audio books. I already have a pile of about 6 books to read. Reading is one of the great pleasures in life.
Me too, I'm just finishing A Season With Verona by Tim Parks which followed his Italian Ways - on and off the rails from Milan to Palermo. We enjoy train travel and plan a North to South holiday next year, probably September and see a bit of Italian footy to.
I do indeed tend to listen more nowadays. Finding the time to sit and read is hard, but listening to a book you can be walking, gardening, driving etc and do it.
Talking of art and literature, I bloomin' sold a painting I did a few days back. I was in a terrific 'painters block', so much so that a portrait I was attempting went in the bin. So, to work around it, I thought I'd paint St John's Church in Lockerley. It's where I spent most of my life (Shepherd's Clearing is what Lockerley means), and this big old 'mini cathedral' had always fascinated me. Who built it, and why in a tiny, tiny village, and actually not in the village? Anyway, I got £50 for a painting I wasn't planning to paint and was basically an 'exercise'.
