Scouse accents, but more specifically as co-commentators, do my head in too. I wasn't sure during the 1st episode of this (This City is Ours), but kept watching. Glad I did. Thought it was a great watch ... lad. 3 or 4 'wtf just happened' twists along the way (including right at the end ). And perfectly set up for a 2nd series. Best thing I've watched in ages.
I watched Sisu on Netflix last night, it’s basically Rambo in Lapland. It’s loosely based around the real events of the Nazi’s scorched earth policy while being forced out of Finland in 1944. But the facts end there and though the main character was loosely based on Finland’s most decorated soldier, the stuff he does is not remotely believable. Still, I quite enjoyed it, don’t we all love a revenge story?
Alan Bleasdale's superb early 80's (5 X 60 minutes) series "Boys from the Blackstuff" is currently available on BBC2 on iPlayer. Well worth a watch. Many great characters played by tremendous actors. Poignant stuff.
I watched The Good Liar on Netflix last night, so you don't have to. An accomplished con-man (Ian McKellen) tries to scam a rich widow (Helen Mirren), but the scammer becomes the scammed. I really like Helen Mirren and there's nothing wrong with her acting, but it's a tedious watch, with a ridiculous storyline and I was glad when it ended.
I'd also watched it a while ago, if not for your review, I'd forgotten I'd seen it, which is my 'review' of it...
One To One: John and Yoko. If you want to experience a time when a crooked American President led a divided Nation and sanctioned unspeakable acts both on his own people and to countries around the world, then this nostalgia trip to Noo Yark City in the early Seventies might be your bag. Some incredible archive TV and home movie footage complements some chaotic concert film and some rather bizarre recorded phone conversations between John, Yoko and a cast of dubious characters. It even manages to cast Yoko in a good light. Probably not to everyone's taste but for those who acknowledge that the world got a little bit darker on December 8th 1980, it's an interesting way to pass an hour and a half.
Binge watched This Is Our City, thanks for the recommendation, I found it a cross between The Soprano’s and Ozark, and I loved both of those. Can’t wait for series 2.
This is our City, what an unlikeable bunch of ****ehawks. Watched the first episode, not sure if I can stomach any more!
Lovable, roguish scallies. As I after watching that, anyone of any age can watch it on TV but we have to have trigger warnings on Shakespeare plays. And Terry and June repeats. The world’s gone mad.
