He was kind of a late bloomer over there tbf. It would also appear he joined West ham and didn't want to be in England.
Do we know the full story over this lad too? Looking at his stats looks like he's going to be a late bloomer too. One ok season
Giving a 4 year contract to a 31 year old who had never played outside his own country was madness to be honest. It could work out but you're not playing the odds there, it felt like a bad idea at the time, no hindsight required.
Burkardt looks mint in this YT scouting vid (be warned the music is **** though). looks dual footed, can score with his head, has tricks in him to take on a man and doesn't mind pulling out to the flanks to get involved. Transfermarkt has him valued at €35m with a contract until 2027. If we could get him in, I think it would be worth the risk of a 1 season wonder. He played with Malik Thiaw in the Germany U21's. Maybe we could get him a friend to play with at Newcastle as well?
I think it would send the wrong message to other players and the club's intentions. I don't think Newcastle will want to sell him, but nothing he's said has indicated he wants to stay here and at the end of the day he's going to want to play at the top. CL football is required for sure imo.
Depends on others though. Everyone wants him to stay but if a bigger club comes in then maybe he'll go. Maybe it'll be Bruno or Gordon. I bet Aston Villa fans thought the same about Grealish and now look at them flying far higher thanks to his sale.
