Crossing the road is a risk. Of course they took a risk. Any negotiation ever takes a risk. Risk is a continuum……on one side, you are measured and in control and know your boundaries and you know where the people that you are negotiating with stand. On the other, you are reckless and prepared to lose everything to get your way. The club were clearly the former and in control…..and it amuses me that you just don’t like that
‘It seems’ is your perception. It’s your definition of massive risk. It certainly isn’t mine. I think they played it perfectly tbh and the result confirms that.
I have to admit I am still nervy with both of these signings but I also don’t know what we could have done differently given they were both finishing their contracts at the same time I worry that we have signed them because They might relax No one will really want to come in on that right to play second fiddle I would love to have seen Nunez given a run there but it won’t happen Virg does look to me like mistakes are creeping in - sort of like what Robbo has looked like the positive is it is only a short contract but that also means that end of next season the circus starts again
Maybe so, I don't really talk all that often to other reds apart from on here, since I stopped watching in the pub.
I'm confident in both men that they won't relax. Salah is a hungry hungry ****. Vvd is laid back but he's not that laid back. It gives us 2 years to improve the side around them. If we had to replace them this summer and Robertson amd nunez and and.. well thst was the whole point of calling it a massive risk. We can buy 2 or 3 really good hungry players (hopefully) and then be ready to replace them in a year or two we will be OK. We can pull a klopp. Buy a mane to play rw then tell him to move over son. I think slot wants someone who could play either side anyway. Salah needs to also start coming off more often anyway. Vvd could play 2 or 3 more years who knows.. the good thing is cbs are not quite so side dominated so we can focus now on konate who is also running down his deal. I just think we've given them everything they asked for rather than them accepting something less so good for them.
Oh I agree we now have a bit of time I just hope we don’t regret it (obviously ) It would have been a nightmare replacing all three plus other areas that need a bit more depth I still wouldn’t give up on Nunez Would rather lose Jota - for as good as he can be - he is never fit for too long
Again, just more guesswork….you are clueless (as are all we). You/we have no idea (a) what the players wanted (b) when they wanted it (c) when the club spoke to them (d) what they offered (e) what the clubs position was (f) what they actually offered (g) what they accepted (h) the terms of the respective contracts……I could go on but it’s pointless. You cannot accept that your opinion (on this matter) is built on pure assumptions that you peddle as facts and that the club have done well to keep two of our best players on board; there always has to be a ’but (insert negative comment here)’ I give in
Seemed to be widely reported that Salah wanted a 3 year deal so if the he didn’t get everything he wanted.
I think we can all agree that we are happy these two exceptional players are staying, two year contracts are about right. Too much disruption in transfers this Summer would have made next season difficult. Nobody knows exactly what is going on behind closed doors but we desperately need a good left back, cover for Bradley at right back and a top striker. That is probably all that will arrive this Summer. Slot has said he wants stability, doesn’t want to change too much so we will see. Personally, I am very happy the contract situation is done now and Trent can try his luck at the Santiago Bernabeu, a fickle audience for sure
Yeah pretty much I have written two posts explaining my ludicrous suggestion I know I am weird I understand the positives But I worry that the club were actually making the right choice and that they have caved to popular demand I feel they felt they had to sign them when actually Trent was probably the one they should have been looking to keep due to his age ? we all know what Salah’s form is like after an AFCON As it’s a two year deal in literally 12 months time the circus will start again I just can’t help but worry we are making the wrong choice VVD has had moments - and he is having more and more - they do both have a lot to offer in terms of guidance around the place but Salah has never been one to be a bit part player - he doesn’t like being subbed at all no idea in Virg I just hope they continue to be positive role models I am happy we don’t have to replace the two/three on top of areas that already need addressing and maybe the club understand and are guarding against the possible drop off I don’t know - I do think it’s a low risk gamble as it only effects the next two seasons - we shall see Rolled in during the early hours My brains asleep lmao
That’s the point. If going on rumours then it was rumoured Salah wanted 3 years so didn’t get what he wanted. However if going on facts then we can’t confirm or deny any of it. Only fact we know is they both signed 2 year deals and everyone is happy about it
I am always happy to discuss all things related to LFC and I do see your point. There was an element of risk letting the contracts run down, there is a risk extending contracts of ageing players. I think the balance is about right but time will tell. Trent I think is a different issue. It looks like his head was turned, Mo and VVD both wanted to stay. As I said, time will tell
