My local fish and chip shop, which is excellent, has just out their prices for a small fish and chips, which are the size of a regular elsewhere, from £5.80 up to £6.80. Thanks Starmer and Reeves.
Duck with plum and hoisin sauce for my tea, Mrs Two tutted but as I told her, 'well it swam'. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I saw on FB that 149 in Brid had a fire and has been closed. I did an East Mids independent bakery hot cross bun taste test this morning. Hambleton’s at £2.10 each (!) versus Birds’ at £2.50 for 4. Similar size, but H’s much heavier and plenty of fruit and candied peel. B’s in comparison had a good shape, but was full of air and lacking fruit/peel/flavour. In my subjective opinion I got what I paid for with the Hambleton hot cross bun. I am an awkward sod and don't buy them till Good Friday, so haven’t had a supermarket offering to compare.
149 is not as good as it used to be. All the ones who made it what it was have left. Prefer Ship To Shore on Flamborough Road. Cheaper too.
Lokmans Fish and Chips, Alsancak, North Cyprus. Large Cod and Chips with Mushpeas. Bloody lovely with a bottle of Effes. Some of you connoisseurs would have found plenty wrong - no haddock, fillets probably frozen, no curry sauce etc. But honestly miles better than I can get in Sweden. Right now to sleep it off by the pool
Still shell shocked over this one, last month, four medium haddock and chips, one carton of peas, takeaway, in Seahouses, £59.80.
Still reckon most, blindfolded, wouldn't know the difference, especially when it's smothered in curry sauce or some such muck.
