Yeah I see this argument, and no they can't be 100% sure. I think the way the events unfolded and the subsequent uncovering of lies on the IDF's part though in this instance, says that they were trying to cover it up. They did initially say that it wasn't a Ambulance convoy, and that it was Hamas suspects in vehicles with their lights off. But the evidence showed that wasn't the case. And the Red Crescent said that it was only medics in their group and the accusation that they were transporting Hamas operatives was a lie also. Also, it isn't the first time that Israel has targeted aid convoys. I take the point that they couldn't be 100% sure. But it looks like in this case, they just got trigger happy, shot up a convoy of medics and then (literally and metaphorically) tried to cover it up.
I don't know about the Pakistani bit, but yeah Badar Khan Suri. Who was due to be deported for 'links to Hamas', but I notice that a US court has blocked his deportation.
You didn't know the Pakistan bit, why am I not surprised. I guess Pakistan must have had a reason for refusing the group a travel permit. I wonder if they considered them to be..........terrorists. In 2010 that permit was refused, oh yeah and you said about his wife, so let's look at her...Mr Khan Suri’s wife, Mapheze Saleh they embarked on quite some journey.
Dunno, there are tensions between India and Pakistan though, so it might have had something to do with that. Just reading about it now, and they travelled through Turkey and Egypt. If they were considered terrorists as you suggest was the reason for Pakistan barring them, wouldn't the more moderate Turkey and Egypt have done the same ?
Their first reaction after the 7th Oct massacre, was to post up a Hamas propoganda video over the dead images of Israeli soldiers a video that contained a speech declaring the start of the execution of the enemy civilian hostages. Not terrorist though. I'll leave you to it, I'm off to watch the football.
well to export arms use need a specific export licence which checks where / whom it is being exported to . That means countries you me and Jack might not like will be considered fine as at that time they are considered a necessary evil or because the money is useful and obviously we have no control over what then happens to those arms . as an aside during the Falkland both sides were using the same frigates which we had not only sold to Argentina but trained there navy to use them and the Belgrana was an obsolete cruiser we flogged them . Both sides also used the Belgian FN rifle the only difference being ours had been fixed to single shot mode while theres was capable of auto fire . used this an a simple example of the minefield* that is arms sales.
Anyway, we've only got 11 mins to sort out today's daily delve into Israeli atrocities and Hamas stealing ambulances. So make it quick lads, the footie is on in a bit.
Spurs won a game of football. Can't be arsed arguing about ambulances tonight. Let's resume tomorrow.
Sky News have released their own investigation of the available information this morning. I've seen it and need to watch it again to digest it fully, but it's 20 minutes long. I'm sure for those with an interest in this incident, it's worth the watch as it appears they looked into all the paramedics social media accounts as well, we still await the IDF response who said they are investigating it thoroughly, it's clear some of the information is the same stuff that the BBC shared, although they don't mention that... https://news.sky.com/story/two-hour...eadly-attack-on-aid-workers-unfolded-13348776
Have watched it now... it's damning ... but most of all, it just left me feeling incredibly sad ... the medics and firemen (all in uniform) that lost their lives in this were just guys doing their jobs ... jobs that they'd been doing for years ... the 'evidence' also suggests that most were still alive after the initial ambush ...
indefensible really. I wonder how some of the chaps who fought alongside these guys feel having been brothers in arms. Just used and abused by our army.
It's so blatant - blanket asylum refusal by the hierarchy so they can't be called as witnesses to potential war crimes ...
Hamas have rejected the latest Israeli ceasefire offering, 45 days for 10 hostages - their counter offer is ALL the hostages for an immediate end to the 'war', withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the release of more Palestinian prisoners ... The cynic in me might think that Netanyahu does not really want the conflict to end, surprise, surprise ... meanwhile there is a blockade on aid into Gaza and no access for neutral observation / reporting, whilst civilians are being directed to 'safe' tent camps where they are then targeted by airstrikes ...
Well that's Sky News leaping into top spot in CK's 'Nothing to see here' league then. There's one quote in there that stands out, which I think sums up the IDF's philosophy in Gaza "Everyone you encounter is an enemy," he tells them. "If you spot a figure, open fire, eliminate, and move on."
Did the cynic in you ever consider that releasing hundreds if not thousands of convicted murderers and terrorists back into Gazan society might not be all that conducive to the peace and love future you think is possible?
Did the cynic in you ever consider that detaining people without charge, many for objecting to being (illegally) forced out of their homes in the West Bank to enable illegal settlements, is equally as conducive to peace?... ... and to think Israel isn't vetting those being released and retaining the real 'threats' is a little naive... not to mention that most of the 'real threats' aren't making it to the prisons in the first place...
