as the seasons coming to a close, noticed there's some great battles in the lower leagues

simons and longman are battling it out for automatic promotion
there can't be three welsh teams in the championship, so cardiff have to go down
    tis the rules
    stockport and charlton, rank outsiders
    playoffs should be interesting

There's not many, if any, better non/lower league set ups than Barnet. Their cafe bar is also far better than the soulless Legends bar of ours, for some reason there's also a picture of Phil Brown on one of its walls. :emoticon-0138-think

Not been there since 93/84 opening day. Nice boozer near the ground and seem to remember the City fans on the pitch a lot throughout and after.

Potentially the first airing of Knees Up Linton Brown?

One of the two enjoyable seasons under Dolan where hope was provided with oxygen before being snuffed out as per.

That was Underhill, they've moved to The Hive, as I said it's a very good set up there. :emoticon-0138-think

People say this about the conference a lot, but why is it considered notable that many of the top sides have previously played at the level above? Why wouldn't they? 23 of 24 Championship teams have been in the first tier but that doesn't get mentioned in the same way the conference does.

I think it's just the notion of established "football league clubs" now being "non league". Personally I don't see the likes of Oldham, Scunthorpe, Rochdale and Southend as non league clubs, but that's what they are now.

I suppose the interesting thing is that those clubs and others were established league clubs for decades but then went down and haven't come back, rather than simply the number in the conference who are ex-FL, which is just inevitable in a promotion and relegation system which has been running for decades.

I think it also shows the gap that's widening between the top tier of non-league and the regional leagues below. Most of the teams in it are professional (which makes Tamworth's achievements all the more impressive because they're still semi-pro) and most of the players and staff are full time professionals. I'll also credit Boston United (the ****s them) even though it pains me to do so, because at the end of January they were second bottom with four wins all season. They went on to win nine more, including four of their last six and are now five points clear of trouble.

10 years ago, the Conference North was mostly semi pro teams, and had teams like North Ferriby United, Gloucester City, Lowestoft Town and Colwyn Bay competing in it.

Now, there are seven former EFL sides, more professional sides and higher wages. The four teams relegated this season from that league are four semi pro sides (Needham Market, Rushall Olympic, Warrington Town and Farsley Celtic) with small budgets. One of those spots will go to Macclesfield, owned by Robbie Savage and a full time club. One of the others will go to either Worksop Town, Stockton Town, Guiseley (the ****s them), Ashton United or Ilkeston Town, none of which are full time and most likely will come straight back back down.

Even in non-league, money talks and unless you're a club like Macclesfield who can plough money in and sign ex league players from the clutches of teams two leagues above you, you're going to struggle. Which, in effect, was Ferriby's problems all those years ago.

Scunny knocked off top of National League North with 2 games to go. They could end up in the play offs again
