Had his only sending off for Plymouth against City. City had the penalty saved by outfield player Nicky Marker. https://x.com/stusfootyflash/status/1912581364500639952?s=19
I was at that game but I'd forgotten that we missed the penalty. I also remember a very fat Neville Southall being sent off at Boothferry Park playing for Tranmere? Or have I just made that up? And another fact I've just remembered. Peter Shilton let a shed load of goals in at Boothferry Park. Remember us beating Leicester in the League Cup 3-2, when Roger de Vries scored his only City goal and wasn't he in goal when we beat Leicester 5-2 under Brian Horton? Another game when he was in goal was for Forest in Bremners debut game. We won 1-0 of course but Jeff Hemmerman had at least three goals disallowed, all dodgy decisions.
I seem to recall we once scored a goal a few seconds after kick off against Budgie Burridge, he was your typical nutcase keeper. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I was at the game - Friday night I think - briefly put us top, or 2nd, or some place exciting anyway. Ended up 2-0. Remember Burridge playing against around the same time, maybe a couple of years later, for Scarboro in the Autoglass. Must have been in his mid 40s then - had a great game.
Burridge was a very good keeper, and a fruitcake. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Warmed up before a match in a Superman outfit, as you do. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Wanna bet, no not you Citygirl, I mean Shilton. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
I remember Big Nev playing at BP for Torquay (99/00 mebbe) - he was certainly Parkinesque in stature and got plenty of, mostly, good natured ribbing at Bunkers end, he took it with a smile on his face and a ''who me?'' when he was regaled with ''you fat bastard'' etc. Don't recall him playing for Tranmere though.
I've spent time with Shilts and one of my mates is very good friends with him. He's a genuinely nice bloke, not up himself at all. Think how many caps he would have had if Clemence hadn't been around, a remarkable career. To quote him for when asked what he thinks of Maradona: "Cheating ****". No love lost at all.
Shilton played for an amazing number of clubs. I'll never forget Waggy's 2 goals against Gordon Banks in the losing effort against Stoke City in the FA Cup in 70/71. Even Pele couldn't score against him.
It was only 50 odd years ago CITYgirl, and I could have sworn, from memory it was Shilton, but one thing is correct, Shilton did let a shed load of goals in against City at Boothferry Park. So was it Peter Grummit in goal for Forest that day? His name rings a bell? Whoever it was was a lucky fella.
Yes, still remember joining in the chant of “ Give us a goal, give us a goal, David Nish give us a goal…”
