Good to see that the Alex Scott Maiden retains its name after all these years. I remember him bursting on the scene as a trainer in the late 80s when I first got into racing. He became retained trainer for Maktoum Al-Maktoum (always liked his silks, see below) with horses such as top sprinter Cadeau Genereux but he was also given the freedem to train for other owners. Probably the 2 most famous horses he trained were Sheikh Albadou (Breeders Cup Sprint winner and at the time the first British-trained BC winner on dirt) and Lammtarra - sadly only as a 2YO. He picked Lammtarra to train from the Sheikh's yearlings and placed a £1000 bet on him to win the Derby at 33/1. Scott would not live to see Lammtarra's victory at Epsom as he was shot dead, aged just 34, by a stud groom in September 1994. When Lammtarra won at Epsom, Ladbrokes paid out Scott's winnings to his widow.
That maiden looks red hot. I really like Kaleido as a prospect but Indian Springs clocked some excellent sectionals on debut and will take a bit of beating on the drying ground. Could be others lurking as well but id say its very likely to be won by a group horse.
What I wanted to say before getting distracted by the Alex Scott story, the race run in his honour usually throws up some nice sorts so it is worth watching with the notebook out. Nakeeb a tentative selection.
yh very nice horse, Kaleido ran nicely looking like he needs a step up in trip winner could be one for the Jersey, provided they have another for the St James Palace
