Are there? I would say the major criticism when you look at the championship top scorer list is a distinct lack of consistent goal scorers Birmingham spent an obscene amount of money on Stansfield and he only has 4 more goals than Louie Barry who’s not played in league one since December
Strikers hard to come by all round this season. *ncredibly with only 4 games left the top scorer in the division is only on 17 (sainz) with only one other player having scored more than 15 (piroe on 15)
Josh Brownhill being in the top 5 is showing there’s not a lot of consistent strikers available right now
Strikers aren’t supposed to score goals anymore, just like goalkeepers aren’t meant to save them either. The modern striker is good with his feet and hold up play and goals are contributed across the team.
I see our throw ins continue to be rubbish , wait til we are marked up then fail to throw far enough or quickly enough to an unmarked player . ( Not the Lincoln ones) they usually fall to an oppo player . YET we stood off the Cov players who could receive and turn into space . What amazed me the same problems have gone on for years under st least 5 or 6 managers . And we still didn’t see Hughes come in late from the box corner for any corners - had that idea gone again . Frustrated of East Stand here !
Walking away from that game, my old man said there’s a horrendous standard of strikers in this league. And he’s not wrong, half of them can’t strike a ball correctly.
No surprise! Absolutely well deserved, Pink Pandur, named in EFL team of week, responsible for our point last night. Would have been an injustice not to have been honoured.
Walter forced him out because outside of a purple patch when he joined Oscar barely scored outside of penalties.
To be fair we ripped him away from Bahia where he was doing well to fill a gap because of our incompetence over summer. I imagine he wanted to go after that
Estupiñán was not forced out by Walter. He was forced out by Rosenior and then recalled from his loan because the club hierarchy ****ed about trying to sign a striker in the summer and we didn’t have one for the first game of the season. He was scoring goals for Bahia and is scoring goals for Juárez. He wasn’t the best footballer but he scored goals. He was great at getting into good positions and finishing his chances. We’ve spent £2.5 million on a kid from League One who isn’t even a better footballer than Estupiñán and worse still, he can’t score goals. Doesn’t even get into good positions to miss chances, let alone score them.
"Scoring goals for Juarez" he has 2 in 11. I don't know how the Mexican league works but it does look like he had a good spell in the first half of their season against a different group of clubs so not sure the quality of those. Had 3 in 11 for Bahia before that in their league and then a couple in their cup competitions against some amateur clubs. He had a fantastic spell for us and I was also aboard the hype train that he would be the answer to our striker problems, but outside of that run in September-November under Shota when we were losing games 5-2 and he was bagging the 2 or getting a hattrick against Coventry by running at the keeper and deflecting the ball in, he only scored the occasional goal. Yes against Huddersfield for example he scored a very good goal, but I'd argue he'd be no more prolific for us this season than Pedro has been and far less mobile. Joseph had very good chances just recently against Sheffield Wednesday, forcing two good saves from their keeper, so not sure I'd suggest he doesn't get in good positions.
I feel like Pedro has contributed more to this season than Oscar would have done - but I’d rather have had both than mess around with Bedia. Our big striker mistake this summer was not signing Ohio.
