I'd have done the same mate. My mate used to play and was really good but has sacked it off due to work and he's now a cricket coach. I played Desert Pines with him and i'd only ever played once before :emoticon-0102-bigsm

In my younger days was off 6. Best was 73 on a par 71.

Nowadays I am more recreational, but can still bother an 80 on my 71 par course when I am well practiced.

I am in the midst of experimenting by reverting to older clubs. The modern ones are so full of tech and help. I sometimes play on my own and enjoy a me v the course. I started last year by reverting to a classic Wilson 8802 putter and it is magic. I have now put some new grips on an old set of Mizuno blades (which look small at address). Played a couple of spring rounds so far and have to say they are fun. Takes me back to my youth when it was about long to mid irons and a putting game. Thinking mans game.

Ha ha no but how random is that? It was about 20 years ago now like. I was bricking it on the first tee. Couple from Chicago were after us and they lived on a bloody golf course. He thought I was mad playing there but I absolutely smashed it right down the middle :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I was crap after that, we ended up pairing up as the sun was going down towards the end of the round.

    Absolutely stunning course like.

That’s so mad! My best course was Royal Lytham. Me and my brother holidaying in Blackpool and had no idea it was a championship course! 14/15 years old on the 1st tee!! They had no problem and the people on the course were lovely! Shot 100+ obviously but hey yo!! Great memory to have as a teenager

Off to Troon next week playing lanark Wednesday Darley loch green Thursday and Troon Friday. Really looking forward to it. Hope the weather holds up. Play off eight which I'm happy with for a 66yr old. Struggle with the knees and back now mind so see what happens this season. Thought last night was absolutely gripping entertainment from start to finish. Auberg definitely a future major winner.

I have managed to get down to 2.1, after a strong run of form last year, esp the Autumn. I shot 6 out 8 rounds under 74; the other two were 78s.

Best casual/mates round was a 67 last year. Shot 70 in a comp end of summer, and another 70 on Sunday - it has plenty upside potential. It’s the only sport I play now, bar general fitness, and really want to get to try & get to scratch. Need to spend time on approach shots and just embed the shot shapes / stroke needed from 150 to 70 yards, to remove the extra thinking that screws up yer game on the course.

Gonna enter a few opens this year and see how I get on.

got a few days off work, so down the course next three days in between some diy @ home while the wife n son are on holiday.

    That’s sensational golf Nordic

it’s a strange game tho… up until the 18th I had one of those rank average rounds today… a few pars… sone decent stuff mixed with crap… then on the 18th managed a birdie… went home smiling like a Cheshire Cat… proper weird game

I think the weirdness is why we love it / get hooked. You can hit a **** shot out of nowhere…. Then a worldie to get back on track. Always a great feeling to birdie the last - you’ll be back !

Played in a best ball tournament last summer. Don't think we used more than 5 of my shots all round but I chipped in on the last to win us the tournament, I took all the praise:emoticon-0140-rofl:

Cracking golf that @Nordic . I always try to practice my short game 60/70 yds in and putting. If I have a good day with that generally find i have a good score. That and the par 3s. Good luck getting down to scratch.

If Nordic and Flanders are playing with Farnboro, I’d advise taking plenty of money.
He complains of a bad back, then hits in 300 yards off the first tee.

Managed 18 this afternoon. Shot 84, but felt a better than that so came off smiling.

As mentioned the other day I am experimenting with some older irons this year, on and off. I played some Mizuno MP-33s today, which I have been playing a bit during the winter. I have to say they are absolutley stunning clubs. They look gorgeous and when you hit the sweet spot they are so wonderfully soft. I also have to say they are quite controllable too. I managed a couple of hold up draws against the wind which is not my shot shape. Saved by my new best friend today a couple of times though, my Wilson 8802 putter. I would say every golfer should try it once, it is the best looking putter I have ever used (and that counts for me).

Here is my bag contents today.

    3 wood - Taylor Made Qi10
    3 & 4 irons - Wilson D7 forged
    5-PW - Mizuno MP-33
    52, 56, 58 wedges - Wilson Staff model
    Putter - Wilson Staff 8802

The low and high end of my irons I am settled on. I am going to dabble with middle irons a bit for fun. I dont tend to play driver as I can be a 1 in 2 with it and value accuracy. The 3 wood is my sons and I like it a lot. May try the driver version in a shop as my distance is not improving with age and it is holding me back for sure.
