Pressure does strange things at the time of the season, we all know top 2 is probably out of reach, but while it's still possible sky shouldn't be discounting us imo. The fall out from Wilder and Farke would be spectacular
Wilder thinks because he’s ’a Blade’ that entitles him to promotion. Farke thought he had the Leeds train running on time … … but they're starting to come off the rails as usual
When Leeds bet us a few weeks ago I think the cracks in their team were starting to show. They managed to get the victory that night and in truth I wish we had played them a couple of weeks later. We on the other hand have battled all season to be where we are and over the last few weeks have not been very pleasing to the eye if I am honest, however we have seemed a more solid unit. My hope is that in these next few games we keep that strong mentality and pair it with some of that attacking flair to create just the right blend of football for the rest of this season and beyond.
Cracking comments marra, and I agree with the solid performances we've been putting in. Hhhaaa'wwwwaaaaayyyyyy the lads
You’re right, after Coventry it was important we ‘shut up shop’ so despondency didn’t set in … … now that's done I’m expecting quite a few changes in the following games and more freedom of expression.
Any rumours yet about the EFL taking action against either one or both clubs for the tunnel carry on at Plymouth. I'm not holding my breath.
Wilder deliberately kept his players on the pitch when the Plymouth players and fans were celebrating a massively important win. He then confronts two Plymouth players and takes his players into the tunnel at exactly the same time as the home team. He knew exactly what he was doing and should get a three match ban, at least.
Last time at the play-off final I just couldn't see us losing, but that feeling only set in after we'd qualified for the final, meaning the last part of the season was the usual butt-clenching torment that I've learned to expect from Sunderland. It seems really weird to have already qualified for a play-off place with so many games left. Part of me wants RLB to go balls to the wall, because play-offs generally get won by teams with the best form going into them. Another part of me wants RLB to wrap out players in cotton wool and nurse them through to the play-offs, just like in preseason. Overall I'm just thankful that we are in this position, because our hot and cold form would really age me over these last few games and my GP already has concerns about my blood pressure! I would be gutted if we didn't go up via Wembley but it would still be a massive improvement over last season. The straw that I'm clutching at at present is tha fact that last season it was 4th placed Southampton who won the play-offs and they too had a big points gap over 5th place...
Good post and I'd agree with almost all of it, win or lose the club has massively improved ... ... there's nothing to suggest we won't just keep getting better in all aspects. As for the bit in bold, I though the same, when I checked on the last three occasions that hasn't been the case. It might surprise a few people to know that, in the last four games and other than the top two, only Millwall, Swansea and Stoke have better form than Sunderland. Considering teams are desperate for points that doesn't make us look so bad ... ... nerves are starting to have an effect imo.
Constantly thinking about the play offs now All the lads are really talking about Most aren’t confident but that means very little All I know for a fact is, I’ll be devastated if we fail to go up. So many amazing memories from this season, really want the best of the lot to be at Wembley.
At the moment in the league to me it's like trying to land in LAX or LHR.....we are just in a holding pattern. Once we are given the ok to land everything will be fine. I'm very confident we will go all the way....would just like to get into it now....see the club get the just rewards for all the hard work that has been put in. Faint hearts win f*ck all......
Isn’t it ironic that those supporters who’ve already given up on promotion … … are also the ones who scream the loudest if the players give up As they showed at Boro they just don’t. Night mate, great to see you keep posting and keeping the faith.
Brilliant reply sir in terms of league position we aren’t going anywhere over the next few games and we earned that right to get in the pay offs and regroup. Don’t think in my lifetime we have been in this situation before with so many games left. So pastures new but the priority is get the best squad available for the play offs so if we have to rest Jobe etc then that’s a luxury we can afford at the moment. I have every confidence in RLB getting it right. The lad has done amazing this season. The support will be amazing. The 12th man advantage. Fate and destiny now but what a club we have!!! HTL!!!!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't want to face Cov in the playoffs. It's really interesting though, as most of the games the other play off candidates have to play, there is something in it for the opposition. So many permutations left with only 4 games left. The other good thing is we don't have to wait long for the next two games!
I believe only Millwall, of the playoff contenders, have better form than Sunderland. Considering they're all desperate for points I'd guess the nerves are starting to set in ... ... Sheff Utd are going to pieces with it all and Coventry have only managed 7 points from the last 18 available. I noticed Mepham and Hume didn't make another 50/50 tackle, against Swansea, once they'd been booked. Other teams don't have that luxury and, as Coventry have shown, they'll pick up significant injuries and red cards. Yes, it may make us look off the pace, but we'll probably have near enough our best team available for the semi-final.
Everyone is of the same opinion with that one, I think. They’re a good side who have caused us loads of bother this season. 5-2 defeat on aggregate over the 2 league games. Wouldn’t fancy going up against Haji Wright again, tortured us previously
