Released 45 years ago today, Iron Maiden self titled debut album. I remember buying this and just staring at the cover for what seemed like hours, thought the artwork was stunning. Some tracks had a punk vibe, which attracted a few punk fans at the time, it was definately a crossover album for me. This, and their second album line up, was my favourite Maiden era, with Paul Di'Anno (r.i.p.) on vocals and Clive Burr (r.i.p.) on drums. Side one, track one.... Prowler.
Cheers mate, very thoughtful. Just catching up with this thread and there’s some great stuff … … even better now I’ve finally worked out how to play it through my Sonos system for the phone
No problem Smug, I led a very sheltered life with music when I was a kid and I am just pleased that people on this thread have introduced me to all of these "new" artists. My daughter has that system in her house and swears by it, do you think it is worth the money?
It’s a system you can upgrade automatically, connect most devices to and play in different zones … … you control it on your phone and it’s easy to use. So, yes in my opinion .
I’ll echo what Smug says. We’ve had a Sonos in our house for 10 years now. Great bit of kit. We also have a smaller speaker for outside on the Al fresco. Go get one!
On the subject of Iron Maiden I think this guy is great. Steve Hughes, Australian thrash metal drummer, comedian and actor.
Horses for courses as they say but not for me. Around 12 years ago he had a syndicated prime drive time radio show, a mixture of music and (alleged) comedy that went out on the commercial FM stations. Here in Perth it was picked up by 96FM which at the time was the top station in the Perth metro area when the station was bought out by the KIIS network. The radio show was co presented with a woman called Kate Lambroek and somewhat imaginatively titled Hughesy & Kate. Coupled with a change in musical direction from rock and pop to dance and charts, It was the singularly most unfunniest radio show I’ve ever listened to and most of Perth agreed. It was in part to blame for a huge drop in ratings and the station losing its top spot, to which I’m sure it hasn’t returned. Listeners turned away in their thousands. It’s only the last 18 months or so that I’ve gone back to 96FM. Maybe us Perthites aren’t as sophisticated as our eastern states cousins but even now if I hear him on the radio or see him on the telly I’ll change channel.
