Ha'way the younguns https://x.com/AcademyOfLight/status/1911014056267297151?t=DiaYVs7l95wlMI0kiWdmgw&s=19
Kids have come out flying after half time vs liverpool u18s: 49' Tom Proctor ⚽ 50', 56' Marcus Neill ⚽⚽ two against his former club.
I'd be happy to stay in the Championship watching winning footie made up of academy players. I don't think I'll enjoy the Premiership with all its bollocks.
I like what i've seen from Marcus Neill. A season with the u21s next year and possibly a loan before looking to integrate him in the first team in 26/27
Class that. Well done to KLD and Speakman for rebuilding the Academy and getting the right structure in place. Looks like we have a cracking bunch of younguns on the production line. Well played lads.
Better late than never Sunderland Under-21s picked up a well-earned point on the road with a 2-2 draw against Aston Villa in the Premier League 2. Despite Villa taking the lead twice through Mason Cotcher and Thierry Katsukunya, goals from Felix Scott and Ben Middlemas secured a point in the final league game of the season. Trey Ogunsuyi returned to the side after a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. Middlemas captained the side with 16-year-old Scott taking a place on the bench after his debut brace on Monday night. The Black Cats started strong with an opportunity in the opening moments. Ogunsuyi's effort from close range was parried away by Sam Proctor. 15 minutes into the contest, Rhys Walsh drove forward before being tripped by the on-rushing Proctor with the referee pointing to the spot. Ogunsuyi stepped up and had his low penalty saved to keep the game level. Triston Rowe continued to cause problems for the Black Cat defence but Kel Chibueze was equal to the efforts, pulling off two outstanding saves just before the break. It was the hosts who started the second half on the front foot, taking the lead on 53 minutes. Former Sunderland U21 forward, Cotcher, finding the bottom corner. Murty called for change with Cuba Mitchell, Timur Tutierov and Felix Scott entering the fray. It was the latter who once again found his name on the scoresheet. After a debut brace on Monday against Spurs, the 16-year-old made another instant impact, finding the bottom corner from the edge of the area on 68. Villa instantly hit back two minutes later, the corner headed in by Katsukunya. The Lads again had a response, Middlemas who had just hit the post, got a second bite of the cherry, applying the first-time finish from Tutierov's cross. Resolute defending from the Black Cats ensured the hosts didn't add a third, with the game ending level and confirming Sunderland's place in the end-of-season play-offs. The Lads will have to wait for other results to confirm a place in the top 12 and next season's International Cup.
