News emerged today that the winner, Nick Rockett, was given an adrenaline shot post race by one of the vets as he had the wobbles. Made it safer, now they go too fast and end up exhausted.
I thought that he looked punch drunk post race and posted as much a few days ago. I actually think racing was lucky in that Broadway Boy survived that horror fall as the optics of that would have been horrendous. But to my eye and having only watched the race once his fall was clearly coming. As the front runner he kicked 18ins plus of loose birch out of the way at most fences. So on the second circuit with all that gone he gets a bit tired has worked out that he doesn’t have to get over the whole obstacle catches the top bar and somersaults with nearly fatal consequences. Now someone on here who knows more about the species may say that’s bollocks and fair enough if so but that’s how it appeared to me.
Having seen what a jockey alongside him approaching the fence said and what Nolan said about events and learning more about what exactly happened when, and what the horse died of, I take back what I said as, along with many others, was sucked in by the media on a crucifying mission to suit their agenda
