I've seen every one of his performances for us(other than Southampton away) and I definitely wouldn't say he was good in all games except the Leeds one.

I think he's been far from convincing in most of his games, but he's definitely getting better game on game and last nights performance was certainly his best.

I also think the problem was more about the defenders thinking the same as me, rather than specific thinks he was doing wrong himself(probably stemming from the Leeds game).

I'm now less concerned about Basso being out and I hope Gulasci continues to improve, but the concerns about his previous performances were justified, we looked way more dodgy at the back when he came in for Basso.

Agreed and although Gulacsi is improving, i still think we should try and sign Harper or De Vries (on loan)

I agree we could do with another goalie, but mainly because we don't have a clue what's going on with Basso. Will he ever be fully fit again?

Tendonitis is a niggling injury that will always be there

    That's what I mean :/

It's also the injury that destroyed Owen Hargreaves.

So why the heel do we insist on banging on the bench?

Play him as our number 1 or find another keeper.

Basso if fit should start and not warm the bench.

Very good game yesterday. He commanded his area very well and his shot stopping was immense.

Basso = not as fit as Gulasci, and therefore only used in emergency.

Who else would be cover, on the bench?

It's funny because Basso was coaching the goalkeepers while warming up last night - he might be put as a player coach - simlar age to Barmby isn't he?

Basso's Big problem is goal kicks. Hence why he is fit enough to be on the bench.

    Liverpool fan here.

Nice to see Gulacsi is doing well now! I remember posting a thread near the start of the season asking you what you thought of him and most of you weren't convinced. Lacking in confidence seemed to be what you thought was his problem and it's good to see him doing well and he should be learning with more game time which will help him.

    <ok>

indeed it is mate. my big concern over Peter was his lack of communication with the defence. that now seams to be sorted and Yes he looks the aprt now. Best game for Hull City last night against Birmingham. Pulled off 3 massive saves.

Yeah, Tickler - fit enough to keep goal in emergency (= Gulasci injured and subbed), but the inability to take goalkicks is the snag. Can another player take spot-kicks? (Obviously another player couldn't take a kick from a catch)

The problem with an outfield player taking goal kicks is that if the ball comes straight back You cannot play the offside trap. You can get away with it for a while but Not game after game.

Yeah, I'm agreeing with you! Didn't know re the offside trap, but it's obvious now you've explained. Cheers.
So - not ideal, but emergency cover.

Yes correct. The other option is for him to throw it out to a defender. But yes Basso is there for an emergency as you say.

Confidence breeds improved displays, simple as..... Gulacsi had a mare against Leeds, confidence shattered, which in turn shatters that of those playing in front of him. Since then when called upon he has steadily improved, result... the defence having more confidence in him and us looking more sound (although occasional defensive lapses are still there). This applies to all players, these two back to back wins will have a huge impact on the lads, given they were both in front of their own fans, and against so called promotion rivals, the confidence they will have picked up from that will be huge. I really expect them some time soon to give someone a real dicking, who knows this could all start at Coventry.

I have rarely read such a poor bunch of appraisals of a players worth:

He's not ours so should not be picked over Basso - what is the point of having loan players? Of all positions I would have thought that the form player was the natural pick, and Gulacsi is our form Keeper.

He's stuck on his line! - were you at the Burnley game, when right up to the collective debacle, he was commanding all of his area and taking lots of balls in the air. Try considering how he has to balance his commitment to the fact that the remainder of his team are Hobbits in comparison to alot of the opposition.

The criticism of his distribution is the old chestnut that scoundrels always devolve to when their other criticisms are pretty lame.

All being told it would have been far easier to get behind him 100%, as he has moved on alot move than some of you experts!

{Definition: EXPERT (Ex-Spurt) - an EX is a thing of the past and a (S)PURT [sounds like] is a drip under pressure} <cheers>
