    To Note

    All good things…

    After 19 games in a row Steven Alzate got a blank in the votes for his performance In the Oxford game

    New Mr Consistent

    Charlie Hughes currently holds the record number of consecutive games with a vote, having received at least one vote in his last 8 games.

    Pandur in the box seat

    Ivor Pandur looks nailed on for the final award. 2 MOTM performances v Bristol City & Sheffield Wednesday means he has extended the lead at the top of the league.

    Still on the rise

    Joe Gelhardt continues to climb the table rising another 6 places. Getting to 7th place after only 14 games for us is very impressive!

    On the other hand

    Kyle Joseph has only received 0.47 points in his 12 games. This is only 0.04 above John Egan’s performance against Sheffield Wednesday.

    I’ll release the data at some point! Racked up a lot of points early on but has also picked up some votes over the last 6 or so.

    Pandur
    Pedro

    Gets very tricky after that. Maybe our centre halves as they've done alright generally despite our position.

    It’s straightforward.

    5 points for first, 3 for second, 1 for third place in the MOTM thread on here over the whole season. Add the scores up. Rank them.

    Although willyfog puts more effort into his spreadsheet than that to account for a few other variables, that’s essentially it.

    Contributors on this board have voted Coyle into current second place.

    Interestingly, Sofascore has the player average ratings as this:

    upload_2025-4-10_11-41-49.png

    Their data is obviously more intricate and detailed than our opinions and eyeballs, but interesting that the top few are pretty much the same as what we've seen. This is across the season, so players like Gelhardt aren't in there because their average rating since they arrived vs games played means they aren't as good as Pedro's. Which, incidentally, is a tad worrying to see our top goalscorer ranked by them as our 16th most effective player this season, behind Omur , Simons and Bedia.

    The comparison is interesting. It would be lovely to have a system, too, where our potm was voted for ‘blind’ - ie without seeing what everyone else voted for. I always do it this way because I find it more fun, but it means I’m often way out compared to the majority vote. Eg I think my top three for Watford didn’t really reflect anyone else’s choice. This probably means I don’t know what I’m talking about - or that everyone was crap. Or both. Although Hughes has been very good the past few games, he had a long time out and before that for me wasn’t as good. I think our choice of Pandur is the correct one - great keeper, and hopefully good enough to keep us up.

    Interesting point.

    I’ve noticed whilst adding up the results that the range of players voted for tends to narrow towards the end of each MOTM thread.

    That said, usually the top 2 or 3 are heavily voted for early on in the thread so I don’t think acquired bias skews the results too much.

    Since beginning of season, I actually voted according to Sofascore also mentioned this to Ernie in POTM threads, probably I am responsible for half of Macca points. And voted a lot for Pandur and Coyle, those 3 were always good in Sofa ratings in first half.

    Good news for the Coyle haters out there. Due to a miscalculation Coyle’s rating was slightly inflated meaning he is now in third place.

    For the record in Coyle’s first 20 games he scored 26.39 points and has 5.40 points in his second 20.

    He was voted our best player in the following games;

    Plymouth (A)
    Sheffield United (H)

    He was voted 2nd in the following games;

    Millwall (H)
    Leeds (A)
    Stoke (A)
    Cardiff (H)

    All games under Walter. Turns out he prefers it when he can rotate with the left back and have no one in midfield to pass to!

    Or we were so bad that only the ones with fighting spirit like Coyle or players with air presence on defensive actions like Macca looked good in chaos because those things don't depend on skill and organization.

    Yes, I always make a point of deciding my 3 before opening the thread to avoid potential influence.
