Good comment....I dislike var and I couldn't imagine how we would have reacted back in the day, of tumbling down the gelderd then realising a var check was underway with eons of time before a decision was reached over someone's toenail being in an offside position .... announce carnage ... obviously it's here for good but needs a good kick up the backside, 30 seconds max and no lines as already suggested may be just about bearable...still a way to go but it's now back in our locker, can we hold our nerves or have we another mini wobble to come ...see off pne at dinner and pile more pressure on the blunts who are 'doing a leeds'
Sorry, I hate VAR, the answer is that the linesman should be better. As the pundits, including Warnock said, these weren’t difficult calls, especially the second where the linesman was looking directly across the line so the officials are either inept or corrupt when shafting us. As for VAR, but for Leeds I would the brink of chucking in my sky sports subscription it’s ruined the game as a watchable sport.
I hate it too in its present format but imagine had we conceded a late equaliser and missed promotion by a point. It would be mayhem among fans today and rightly so. Incidentally the TMO in rugby is pathetic and it's a lot longer in place. Ive seen them show over twenty repeats of the same incident. Have one ref to look at var and hive him 45 seconds, end of
don’t actually agree with the pundits on which call was difficult and which was easy. I thought The tanaka one was a shocker - it’s a regulation cross with players in a line. I had a good view of the bamford one and in real time it was hard to tell. When the defender steps up as the ball is played it’s fractions of a second between being well on and well offside.
Yeah appreciate that, that’s what we got him for, it’s his job. What I cannot understand is his (seeming) unwillingness to stop the dribbling and silly passes when he’s on the edge of our box. He’s got caught a few times fannying about recently and mostly it’s not proved too costly. He wouldn’t get away with it, if we go up.
My concern with Solomon is the same one I have with Tanaka. He looks fcked. When was the last time he took someone on? He looks a yard slower and heavy legged. Yes he put a couple of crosses in and should have had two assists... but anyone actually think he's looked good? Night and day between him and James last night and earlier on in the season he was the one who looked PL quality. I'm certainly not writing him off. Maybe these guys need rotating, maybe they just don't have the natural stamina of some, maybe they're carrying knocks, maybe they're confidence players. These are the things you learn about players over a long season. I think its obvious now why Tanaka - who (according to Kieran Mckenna) everyone knew about - was playing in the German second division in his mid 20's without anyone taking a chance on him until we did. It certainly isn't ability that's the issue.
I must have been watching another game, Tanaka looked solid yesterday, broke up their play, pressed, thought he covered a lot of ground
All about opinions but if you look at the replay of the Bamford “goal” the linesman is up with play and looking directly across the line, we don’t know the angle of sight of the linesman for the first disallowed one. I appreciate that I don’t know what view you had of the incidents,
I've not watched the game on tv... at the game he barely seemed involved when we were on top, and gave the ball away, got caught in possession several times, made some really poor passes. He overhit a player in space at one point when we had a chance to break by about 20 yards. He was shrugged off the ball/lost his duels as they like to say regularly. No lack of effort. They all ran themselves into the ground. Leggy players still do the miles, they just do them a bit slower, and are under pressure all the time. That's how he looked to me. It's how he's looked for weeks. A shadow of the player from a few months back. But we all see things differently.
I'm with milky on this, the first decision was shocking, the 2nd was wrong but I can at least reason why. The first decision came from a corner, the linesman should already be in position for that, and thus as the move progresses he only needs to adjust slightly slightly, he is not having to keep up with play. The second one is on the break, so the linesman is having to keep up with play, whilst keeping both on eye on the player with the ball and the the defence as Bamford is running through. He only needs to be half a yard out for that to cloud his judgement. That half a second that it takes for him to see the ball played and check where Bamford is, is all it takes to give him a different perception. Obviously both decisions were incorrect, but the first is a shocking decision, the second is one of those moments that can go for against you and whilst it's easy to say he was in line to see if Paddy was onside or not, his eyes should be on Willy as he plays the ball. We have had decisions like the second one go in our favour both in an attacking and defensive sense this season, when the call has been incorrect. Those are the types of decisions that people would say even out over the course of the season. The first one, even I cannot find any reason to defend the officials decision, that's how poor it was.
Fair enough, happy to accept I’m in the minority but, just to be clear, I’m not defending either, I think both decisions should have been called right. The only point I made was that from the television pictures, I didn’t know what the position of the linesman was when he gave the offside. Milky was at the game so I’m more than happy to accept this as the worse of two bad decisions.
By the way, anyone heard whether we have received a letter of apology from the PGMOL for the offside decisions yet (or have they decided to charge DF for his comments after the game instead)?
Didn't think you were defending any of the decisions LoL, just giving my opinion of which was the easiest to be a genuine mistake as opposed to poor officiating
