Yes, because I want the Club to keep growing its revenue and the CL is the only way to do that. It's the way to succeed in the medium term. It's because we were happy with winning the occasional cup that we became a nothing club in the mid-1990s in the first place.
Spurs had a period of qualifying for the CL several times and where has that got the club? Winning a trophy creates history and also gives fans great memories
Not really. They seem to be driven by the absence of either VdV or Romero. As my first post in this debate showed Arsenal drop 0.6 points per game when missing Gabriel. If we had 0.6 points extra for games which VdV missed we would have been top four last season and 5th or 6th this season.
Several times isn't enough, it needs to be every year. We have the potential to be the best club in England and frequent PL and CL winners...that's the history I want us to create. Not the mediocrity of a League Cup win.
How many years do you think before we can be that club according to the finances of the club year on year since the new stadium went up? I recall something similar from yourself when the stadium went up, not just you a few others too about how the trophies will come to me that statement or words to that affect always felt like kicking the can down the road by the uber optimists we’re all still waiting and not a goal closer to regular glory on the football pitch for THFC Now and again I get told that it’s never happening because of oligarchs and sheiks, that’s another thing I don’t believe. Levy has been in the fame longer than the sheiks and oligarchs but he doesn’t quite understand how to build a successful football team.
It depends on how well the PSR regulations are enforced. I expected Chelsea to go out of business before now and Man City to be sanctioned so I thought our task would be easier. The pronlem is that catching up on revenue isn't good enough, we have to be a long way ahead. But we have the best infrastructure in the richest city in England so it is just a matter of time. The only shortcut is a very big capital injection which is quite possible but a bit risky from my point of view. On your last point I don't think that Levy's skill in that area has been tested. It can't be judged until we have properly overtaken two or three of the richer clubs.
Essentially so does every team in England. You’ll need: Continuously perfect recruitment Continuously perfect hiring of staff OR A very, very rich owner who can continuously bank roll high value players until you have so many it becomes almost impossible to lose matches.
Having referees who turn a blind eye to a suspicious amount of fouls also helps Of course that fits in with hiring of staff, as a coach who kvetches about referees every single match is likely to get the rub of the green often enough that it's worth 8-10 points minimum, which is a complete coincidence...
It hasn't been played IMHO for ages. Mainly because opponent coaches sussed that by : 1. not committing to the "pivot trap" , the Spurs attack turns into Portu-ball facing anything approaching busparquet. 2. transition to attack, the Spurs formation often gives their team a 40-50m unchallenged run thru CM to the final third.
That pretty much coincided with us dropping our backline 20 yards back during the injury crisis, as none of Gray, Davies or Dragusin could play that way And by complete coincidence, that's when our midfield started to get bypassed by a simple ball over the top on the reg
1. The three decades before Sugar became owner, the trophy count goes thus : 1960s : 5 1970s : 3 1980s : 3 That is not "occasional" . 2. Spurs became a "nothing club" because the owner had a type of customer base (tribal) that meant he could get away with hardly any investment of his own money post-purchase.
I get that. However your admitted reluctance /refusal (I can't remember which it was) to acknowledge opinions based upon other methods of analysis, make it look exactly that way. As I said then, statistics are one of many possible analytical tools. That's it. They're not truth and are as reliable/unreliable in interpreting reality as any other method, especially when applied to human beings.
No I don't but it is an illustration of a real outcome from an injury absence which is much lower than what we have. As usual, I am not trying to prove anything. I am asking the people who want the club to spend millions sacking the manager to show me the evidence that this is required.
That's all true. But the principle mistake was not to notice that in the future league position and European qualification was going to be the biggest driver of success and wealth and thus the ability to hire quality players.
I reject it because it is circumstantial. Ange's performance is also entirely consistent with him being a good coach who has run into an unusually bad series of injuries.
Agreed but no-one is posting the results from other analytical tools. They are mostly posting half-baked statistical analysis.
