There's too much they need to get right. It's going to be near on impossible to have a decent season next year. Even those posters who seem to think Spors is the second coming of christ must realise that? They've got to get the right manager Offload the entirely dross squad Recruit entirely the right players Do it on a tight budget. We've no ****ing chance
All those things they had to do last time we went down didn’t they? Why do you think it will be on a tight budget?
They won’t need to invest much next season I don’t think. Too early to tell really as no idea how many of the players will want out but I can’t think of a single player in our huge squad who a top 6 championship team wouldn’t want at least as an option in their squad. Sell the obvious players and maybe a few others who we just want to move on from, bring in 4/5 new faces and we should be in a good spot to come straight back. As for your investment point I think that’s been slightly out of their control. Getting relegated led to a huge sum coming in that summer (180m?) which skews it. They couldn’t really have done anything about that once we went down. We must’ve been up there with the highest spending Champ teams last season. I know Charles was the most expensive signing by a Champ team at least. And we clearly didn’t need to do all that much to come back up from a spending perspective. Next season will be the same I think
This is the exact same complacency that SR will have, leading us to miss out on promotion next season. Bookmark this and come back to it this time next season. Bet I am right and we miss out
It’s all about the manager next season for me. We have the squad to get out of the Championship, if managed well. There will be a hangover from this season which means we need to start well and get used to winning games. The only good thing the useless Martin did was get a good team spirit instilled (and I put that mainly down to the fact we were winning games more than anything else). It obviously could go wrong next season and we end up outside the playoffs, but that would be on the manager, rather than the playing squads ability. So hopefully Spors can find someone decent.
I seem to remember Martin getting slated last year because although we finished 4th, we had the best squad in the Championship and should have done better. So seems SR equipped us pretty well, last time round.
You're not wrong about needing to get the right manager and also the difficulty of a complete overhaul of the playing squad, but financially we are in a much better place this time then when we were last relegated.
6 beers in rant time How people think a good manager will solve our issues is hilarious. This club is rotten to the core and needs a full reset, this isn’t a case of the players just need the right motivator, this is a case of the players repeatedly getting away with not being good enough. I just can’t fathom the logic of thinking that a new manager with the same players will somehow be good to come up again in a years time and suddenly all be good enough? We have no leaders, experience or balance in the squad, this whole club needs an enema. I said it last season and I fully believe it for next season, we need a gutting this summer and 2 full seasons in the championship with an actual competent manager and system in place ideally with an entirely new back line with ideally 2 centre backs that feel reliable. This is a squad that cannot remotely deal with any kind of pace, pressure or high tempo. This is a systemic issue that has been going on for years now and no manager has organised it. Bednerak and Stephens being 2 of your main 3 centre backs after both being part of BOTH 9-0s is a ****ing joke and the biggest, brightest neon sign that something is seriously wrong. We’ve been picked apart by vultures for the last 10 years going back to Katharina and people are surprised we’re now a carcass of a club, any sense or feeling of success has been beaten out of the club and this year that feeling has finally hit the fans. Our legacy as a club is selling for profit and failing to keep hold of any iota of consistency. I don’t recognise this club, I don’t recognise these players or this board, we are just a fully fledged slapstick joke of a club. I know it’s pessimistic as **** bit is anyone here with a straight face going to argue that if we finish top next season with 3 or 4 standout players, that we’re not going to immediately sell them for a tidy profit going into the PL? You’re living in dream world, this club has ruined one of the main enjoyments of football for me and that’s being hopeful to build a future. Because we’ll see it at the first sign of money. I understand every club has its woes and its best plucked from time to time but no club in the top two English divisions has been so utterly mauled consistently over the last 10 years in every single department. This is the club that in 2 transfer windows sold 13 first team players and a bunch of decent subs. You think we finally have a good new centre back? Sold. You think we might have a decent scouting team? Gone. You think we have a good sporting director? Gone. You think we have a board that will take us places? Gone. You think we might have some decent academy players come through? Gone. You think our highest transfer ever might stick around now he’s started playing a bit better? Probably gone.
I am on the fence qith Spor. He is a goid acquisition but i believe he does not tend to stay long with clubs. I wonder what he thinks about SR? I think that the club will end up being bought by a new owner. Just do not believe that SR have the support of the fans or the gumption to take us up a second time. We will also probably end up with another useless manager under SR. We would be an excellent acquisition for a competent owner who would be more likely to retain Spor.
I don’t think anyone has said that this squad comes up and is good enough under a different manager. This squad should be capable enough under a good manager to come back up (although the squad will look a lot different at the start of next season as is always the case after relegation), but obviously will need some injection of new players to have any hope of surviving, and chances are they won’t. Staying in the Championship for a couple of years won’t change the fact that if/when you come up it is a mammoth task to survive, so you may aswell come up ASAP to give it a go, even if unsuccessful. Building a side good enough to stay in the PL is hard enough when you are a PL side, let alone being in the Champ for a couple of years “building the base”. As for your general “sell everyone” point, it’s true for any club our size. We were an extreme example a decade or so ago, but every comparable team has lost its star players since then. The thing we don’t know yet with SR is what would happen if we did actually survive in the PL. They seem happy throwing money at us so maybe we’d keep some players if we didn’t have to sell them because of relegation
